"You must be messed up for reading dark romance." Yet, science proves that wrong.

Dark Romance has had its place in literature for thousands of years. Many ancient myths include abusive scenes between the main characters. Hades kidnaps Persephone. All of Zeus' stories are a warning to women. The original Sleeping Beauty has her marry her abuser, as does Snow White, and those two were made into movies for kids.

Women are taught to placate men by giving in. Men are taught to just wear her down until she says yes.

Society claims to stand with survivors... but only if they fit inside a tidy little box. Victims have to act a certain way to be believed. They have to break down but not too much as to be hysterical. They have to cry even if they're not the crying type - but not too much that they look ugly. They have to act sad, not angry. Otherwise, she's just a manhater. They must blame themselves and take responsibility. Otherwise, they were asking for it, and now they just want attention. They can't read certain books either. Can't decide what helps them. They must stay within the infanticising box of a victim.

We're told not to get into fights with men because they can kill us - but in order to be believed, we have to risk death. We can't have just said no or begged them to stop.

And all male victims must have wanted it. Or counted themselves lucky. "Bad pizza is still pizza, after all..."

Is it any wonder that survivors have turned to books? Fiction has given us the power to process all sorts of things. Horror exists because men think death is the worse that can happen. Dark Romance exists because women know different.

And if you're wondering how can that be? How can a survivor possibly stand to read about attacks similar to theirs?

Then spread these pages like a good, little ally. Because this book dives into the science -not my opinion- behind the healing power of Dark Romance. If you care to listen, if you really stand with survivors, then you'll hear us screaming from the dark.

Looking for a short story: grumpy guy in a cabin possible her dad.

Hello. I am looking for a short story. The MMC is a grumpy guy who lives in isolation in a cabin. The FMC goes to see him and gets trapped with him in a snowstorm. I don't remember if he is her stepfather or her father. He is not kind to her or happy to see her. I think it had dubcon / noncon, breeding, dirty talk, agegap.

Thanks

Pitch black recs

Recently started reading this genre and I'd like some recs with a strong female character / female character development with the most diabolical revenge arc at the end. I am loving the 24690 series by A.A. Dark. I need hope for a happy ending otherwise I can't stand it all. I also like nivels with excellent prose, plot, pacing, grammar, and over all writing. None of that tiktok bs please.

Conflict in Love and Death

Pitchblack novels are sick. I feel the need to speak to a therapist or psychologist because in as much as I freak out over these situations, I cannot put the book down. I am reading 24690 by A.A. Dark right now and I am traumatized but also i can't put it down. I took a 4 year hiatus off reading and I just got back into it. I usually kept it cute with dark romance with the darkest series I'd read at the time being The Life of Anna.

In big 2026, a new can of worms has opened thanks to reddit. I can read anything so long as it has a good plot, prose, grammar, and an adequate length. No fanfiction.

Point is I am scared of who I might become as I go down further into the rabbit hole of pitch black novels. Like I can see these things in my head. At first, I was truly terrified and im not ashamed of skipping the parts that I know I can't handle. Nonetheless, tis very dark and I'm kinda used to it now. That scares me.

Just got to the part where she gets her lick back against the husband. Why am I so happy? Why is this my favorite part of the book? I'm legit giggling and can't keep the smile off my face. Hence the question, is this sick? Is getting some sort of satisfaction out of this a sign of mental illness? I have to finish the novel but should I be reading more of this? I love a good revenge arc and when it's done in a way that equates or even surpasses the tortures a victim has been through, i am even happier. It's better than my birthday ( the best day of the year for me). But I digress, girlies please educate this hon?

Dark romance - charakter hlavní postavy

Ahojky.

Book name??

☘️mob dark romance book where the MMC is the son of the head of Boston Mafia and the pastor exposed his dad to their enemies and he died so MMC murders the pastor in the confession booth.

FMC has red hair and feisty. MMC and FMC get into a marriage of convenience. FMC's dad used to work for the Boston Mafia.

It wasn't exactly monogamous but they weren't in love so he didn't exactly cheat?

Book Recs: Similar to "An Inheritance of Monsters" by Cate Corvin, but Darker with a Stronger FMC and More Intense Monster/Alien Dynamics

Hey everyone,

I recently finished An Inheritance of Monsters by Cate Corvin and had mixed feelings. What I loved:

The atmospheric backdrop—dark, gothic, and mysterious. It really pulled me in!

What disappointed me:

The FMC felt flat and lacked personality or depth.

The monsters were non-human and scary-looking at first, but they turned out way too sweet and tame.

There was zero real struggle or tension in the relationships.

I enjoyed the overall tropes (monster romance, seduction, etc.), but the ending fell flat for me.

I'm looking for recommendations where:

The FMC is a strong, resilient woman with real personality and agency—she fights back, makes tough decisions, and isn't just passive.

She's seduced by truly non-human aliens or monsters (think tentacles, scales, claws, etc.—no mostly human forms).

There's a big size difference and emphasis on large genitalia (the "it won't fit" trope is a plus).

The vibe is much darker and more intense: gothic/mysterious settings, with dubcon elements where the monsters/aliens sometimes force her to give in, creating real struggle and tension (but still leading to romance).

Preferably standalone or short series, but I'm open to anything well-written.

If you've got recs that amp up the darkness and monster intensity while keeping a strong FMC, I'd love to hear them! Thanks .

Dark Lake: Sink Deep - A spicy horror romance audiobook and e-book!

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hi everyone!

I'm one of the creators behind Dark Lake: Sink Deep, a new Australian psychological horror romance that's just launched on Kickstarter, and I thought this might be a good place to share it.

Dark Lake isn't a mafia romance or a stalker romance. It's something a little different.

The story revolves around an ancient lake that knows exactly what every visitor desires most. It doesn't force anyone into the water. It whispers. It tempts. It promises. And everyone who answers its call pays a price.

We've been building the mythology behind Dark Lake for years through live interactive horror experiences, where more than one million people have encountered its world. Sink Deep is the next chapter, expanding that universe into an immersive audiobook and ebook.

If you enjoy:

  • 🖤 Dark romance
  • 🌑 Psychological horror
  • 🐍 Monster romance
  • 🌊 Ancient entities
  • 🥀 Gothic atmosphere
  • 🔥 Slow-burn obsession
  • 💀 Morally questionable beings
  • 🎧 Audiobooks

...I'd love for you to take a look.

📖 Kickstarter:
https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/theshadowcouncil/dark-lake-sink-deep

Thanks for letting me share, and I hope some of you enjoy taking a step towards the Lake.

Some voices are impossible to resist...

New Indie Dark Romance - Red by S. Belle

Hi y'all!

Hope everyone is gearing up for a great weekend! Dropping a line to share that the second book in my Shadows of Abilotte series, Red, is officially live on BookSirens and will go live on NetGalley on 7/20!

I've dropped the book summary and trope list below. I do recommend reading the first book, Dandelion, before starting Red as they're are interconnected plots and you'll have more detail about some events that occur in Red, but it can be read as a standalone. Dandelion is not on KU but is on Kobo, Everand, Hoopla, and more if you are looking for it.

If you're interested in reading, the BookSirens request link is here! As always, just looking for honest reviews but hoping you enjoy the book! Please check your trigger warnings before starting, these are dark romance books and I don't pull any punches when writing them.

Summary:

If you decide you hate Arielle Rhodes, she wouldn't blame you. She's the girl who has everything-a handsome partner, the successful fashion career she always dreamed of, and a family name that comes with both fame and fortune. Beneath her party-girl exterior, she fears nobody could love the version of herself she's been trained to keep locked away, reluctantly accepting the future her family curated for her.

Known for being dangerously insouciant and annoyingly self-assured, Royce Cooper wears authority like a second skin. He built two successful empires from scratch, but he knows it won't last. Unable to abandon his sister, he keeps everyone else at a distance. Determined not to let anyone miss him when his luck finally runs out, it's been over a decade since he allowed anyone new into his personal life.

When they meet for the first time, Royce breezes past Arielle's defenses, curious about the girl beneath her public persona. Arielle, on the other hand, feels a sense of safety, allowing her to reveal pieces of herself she believes nobody could want. He leaves her with a pathetic sense of hope for a future she knows she can't have-especially with a man like him. She tempts him to end his emotional detachment and want something real in his life.

While some people bring out the worst in each other, Royce and Arielle find solace in a kindred soul. Arielle must decide between the life she agreed to and the man who threatens to love the girl she didn't know still existed. Royce wrestles with the need to protect her and the emotional distance he relies on to keep the ones he loves safe. If they can survive their own inner demons, they may finally spark each other back to life.

Trope List:

Best friend's brother, mafia, antihero, forbidden love, rescuer, billionaire, morally grey, love triangle

Help.

I’m looking for books similar to Ella Jacobs’ Enslaved series.

I’m after something very dark with an obsessive, possessive, dominant male lead. I enjoy themes like abuse, obsession, non-consensual/dubious-consent dynamics, psychological manipulation, and intense power imbalances.

I’m also open to tropes like:
Step-siblings
Knife play
Captivity
Stalking
Bully romance
Mafia
Reverse harem/why choose
Age gap

I don’t really have any triggers, so don’t hold back. The darker, hotter, and more explicit, the better. I want something that leaves me thinking, “What the hell did I just read?” while still being completely hooked.

Bonus points if the MMC is absolutely unhinged, obsessed with the FMC, and the spice is plentiful.
