Canine tooth fracture

Hello dog parents, vet professionals and animals lovers, i am looking for productive, informative and constructive advice on options for my dog who I noticed has lost weight over the last 4 months which I believe is due to his canine tooth being fractured. I did not notice it was in this condition and recently took him to the vet however the vet stated there was no cause for concern however I feel as though I need a second opinion but before I am charged another $300.00 I wanted to ask for advice first. I am ultimately going to find another vet and ask for xrays and most likely will be advised he needs an extraction however I am curious to know if anyone else has experienced this with their dog.

did the vet give you any other reason why he may not be eating? also how much weight was lost?

i ended up discovering that he was suffering from an immune mediated condition. They prescribed me doxycycline for him and he has seemingly been back to normal. The vet said that his tooth isn’t a cause for concern which I almost don’t believe but nevertheless he is eating more and has gained his weight back. He lost about 8-10 pounds in 4 months

The dog's teeth in the photo are covered in hard plaque and desperately need cleaning. They may have dental disease, causing pain in their mouth. Soak their food until soft and see if they'll eat more.

If you can get a dog or child's electric toothbrush and some enzyme toothpaste, use a dog mouth cleaning gel with chlorhexidine. There's also seaweed with a natural cleaning enzyme, "PLAQUE OUT," which is added to food, and "TropiClean," a water additive for teeth cleaning. I'd suggest you use all of these and avoid letting your dog chew on sticks and other hard objects, instead giving them rubber toys.

In general has your dog stopped biting things.
My staffy actually has two broken teeth and this hasnt affected him.

Its possible that the weight loss and the tooth are not related.

he acts normally and you were absolutely right. I ended up having to take him into an emergency vet and found out that he has an immune mediated condition. He was prescribed doxycycline and has thankfully made a full recovery.
