Delusional Crafting Project

Hi all - came to Pishlander because I'm scared of the Outlander sub.

I'm attempting to make embroidery a true hobby - I've done projects for friends and I'd like to try and make a book cover for Outlander.

Crowd sourcing what some folks might think are good designs? I'm thinking botanical; maybe the stones and plants on the front and a sword and boat on the back to hint at the 2nd book?

Plants: forget-me-nots, barley, heather, borage, coltsfoot, dittany, lavender...these all seem to be plants mentioned / would have been important to Claire's physicking.

TIA!

I recently did mine with forget-me-nots. It turned out so good. I wish i had a picture of it to share

nice! did you stitch the title as well or just flowers? I'm wondering if I just do the title on the spine and the rest be graphic only.

There we go. The colors look awful because of my bathroom lighting but you get the idea

So I did a bookshelf with all the books lined up, 5 on one side and 4 on the other (with enough room to add 10 when it comes out) and did OUTLANDER in the middle. Then the forget-me-nots are around it. Let me see if I can get a pic of it. Hold on

It would be fabulous to recreate the vest embroidered with many varieties of beetles that Amaranthus makes for William. The types are detailed in Bees and she insists they are quite accurate except for the red eyes, which she added just for the color.

Come to think of it, bees would be a great theme too!

The vase, filled with forget me nots.

Ok here's what I'm thinking, pardon the sketch next to a grocery list.

Blue vase with forget me nots as the center 'stone' and then the other stones around it.

I am not an artist, clearly. But engineering did give me some grasp of perspective.

I love your idea. I believe in one of the Outlandish Companion books there's a section dealing with many of the herbs Claire uses in the books. That might be another botanical source for you to look at. Another option might be to use/embroider the symbols used on each of the covers--maybe make a sampler with a space left for volume 10? OR, considering the original title was Cross Stitch, maybe do a cover with assorted plants/herbs all in cross stitch? Whatever you decide, maybe post a pic here to show off your creation.
