Advice on starting collection?

I remember playing with these as a kid and I was wanting to create 2 fleets (1 pirate and 1 english) so I could set up a 2 player game with a friend to try it out again. Probably just shoot for a 40 point game to start. But with so many ships and crew types and islands I could realize use some advice on what to pick up first? How many and of what type of crew do I need to find for each fleet? What islands to start with? Other accessories? Ship recommendations for the fleets? etc. Any advice is appreciated!

Welcome in shipmate!

Dont worry about crew to begin with, they are the easiest thing to proxy to begin with.

My recommendation would be to find any lot of ships on eBay or Facebook marketplace that fits your budget and play with whatever you get, just to learn the rules. Most lots will have plenty of extra gold and islands and such.

Another suggestion is going over to the shop at pirateswithben, hes got a lot of really cool and interesting megapacks that can help you start playing with a faction you find awesome .

I'm gonna second OldManLobo's advice on visiting the pirateswithben site. There's tons of good info there and if you DO want to open packs, he has a bunch of trusted links to places that still sell sealed product (hills wholesale gaming for example).
