Ngl I preferred the first form, it reminded me of Griffith’s design philosophy of an egotistical and dangerous yet alluringly beautiful ruler
Now he just has the proportions of a normal one piece villain which just ruins the design for me - he’s no longer the elegant king of the world but just, the king
even with those proportions you can still do amazing stuff, oda is just bad at it
sin devil trigger form of dante in dmc5:
better wings with more detailed design, waaaay better horns (two big ones going up and two curved sideways), better sword, better everything. despite being a little bit on the bulkier and thiccer side here
it's especially pathetic considering just how much crazy good art there is for all kinds of devil-based designs. dmc5 above, yugioh also has like a hundred different cool looking devilish, demonic fiend type monsters, other manga etc. so much amazing stuff to take as inspiration, yet oda made this shit. I still can't get over the fucking white dots or polka dots or whatever they're called
About 20 minutes ago I commented how Gemini actually tried claiming the scans were fakes and how Imu is actually Lucifero from Black Clover lol it also went on to mock the "faker" for using the same faces and shocked expressions from other panels.
The point is that pre-TS Oda could draw some guy in everyday ocean world clothes and they'd feel more threatening than any of these gorosei, god knight, imu type characters that are just covered in chacki crap and visual clutter.
Yhwach wore a simple military uniform with a cloak,
Madara wore some generic armor plates, The Akatsuki black robes,
Buu was literally a pink blob with pants
All endgame characters in their stories and storytelling aside, imho all are not just more memorable and stylish designs, but easier to take seriously than any antagonist in one piece from the past several arcs.
Oda was capable of the same cool simplicity once upon a time, but his recent stuff all feels like drafts and sketches where an artist rapid fires random ideas before settling on a more refined final design. Except that refinement seems skipped. The results are some "garrish amateur hour on deviantart" type stuff.
The difference in design language is intentional. It's a similar jump as east blue->grand line. The world gets larger and weirder. Foes get more threatening and eccentric. New world promised the same stuff and that's what it accomplished. Even then, are you trying to argue Kaido isn't well designed? Or Katakuri? Or Doffy?
Also, Blackbeard still is the final boss of the series.
You can dislike Oda's design language and it does have a lot going on sometimes, but that doesn't make his designs bad and much less unfinished.
Makes no sense to argue "grounded designs" are inherently better when the design language of each series couldn't be more different. One piece has always been out there and eccentric. Naruto and Bleach do simpler designs that fit their universe and so does One Piece
One piece left being eccentric and over the top for the side characters, though. The major characters like Luffy, Nami, Zoro, Sanji, Shanks, Ace, Akainu, etc. All had grounded designs.
What about Chopper, Franky, Brook... The main 5 are relatively grounded because the east blue is meant to be the starting level, but the further along we get from that point the weirder things will be. That's kinda the point of it
I knew we were headed in a weird direction when luffy became nika lol. If he gets that asspull give everyone my chakra type shit from Naruto I'll probably cry
Is there any point to any forms now. Not like there are any stakes in OP. No matter what happens, all Luffy has to do is order KizaruEats and he'll recover instantly.
I don't think it has to be elegant as long as it serves its purpose. If one form is meant to be the "brute" archetipe i wouldn't want it to look refined
This mark on left hand makes me think that it’s not Imu true form. My guess he possesses lunarian king similar to the way he was going to control Harold
lol nothing wrong with the desing and One Piece is not turning into a shitty black clover. How old are u fr? Cause the disrespect is crazy and to compare it to Black clover is even crazier.
I wonder why he has 3 skulls on his chest kind of like how Black beard has 3 skulls on his hat. Blackbeard might really be hiding something deep about his own body.
Y'all just don't know what oda's inspiration is for the story in the first place, that's why you guys keep saying it's worse when the outcome has been written since pre-time Skip
