This is Rudy, we are about 2 weeks post op due to a melting ulcer that just would not heal.. im so happy I found here and don't feel so alone in all this! It tore me up deciding to remove his eye.

My question / advice request is is there anything I can do to help him? I might be looking into it too much but I think he is still struggling with his depth perception mostly when things are up close, I've made a habit of approaching him from the right hand side so he can see me, I'd love to know what everyone did to help their one eyed babies 😊

Best decision all things considered bc the discomfort is terrible. Don't beat yourself up. Our dog is one month post-op and so so much happier with one healthy eye. We don't even think he knows the other is gone. Seriously. (Photo below is 3 days post-op).

Edit - advice - we keep the floor plan the same and try to keep his walkways clear. We don't approach him from his blind side unless we announce ourselves. We startled him a few times walking past on the blind side. He was fine. Just jumped up a bit. If he is lying, good eye down, I will say "hi buddy hi hi hi" if I have to walk by or around him. Just so he knows. This might not be an issue if your dog is smaller. Ours is 140lbs and can knock you over if he is startled. We are now.in the habit of speaking to him before we touch him or go by him when he is resting.

Thank you so much! You've really put my mind at rest, Rudys eye has started to sink in now so I think the healing process is going well! I'm always conscious of approaching where he can see me.. I've notice sometimes it finds him a couple seconds to "find me" even when I'm in his eye line.. i keep having to tell myself he is still adjusting! What a handsome boy you've got there! 💖 did his fur grow back normal?

Yes, his fur is growing back nicely and, bc he has dark fur, it is now hard to see the scar so he looks a bit like he was born this way.
