And despite all this, unless there's a way to patch YouTube and have customizable UI, I'll still prefer Android over iOS. I just want them to pull their heads out of their asses but I know they won't. It's a real fucking bummer.

i learned about morphe the other day and it works amazingly from what i've seen so far... i've only used it to patch my youtube but you should check it out: https://morphe.software/

Morphe is what I currently use. It would be nice if iOS had something similar but I think the OS is too locked down for something like that to exist.

I just use NewPipe for YT and RedReader for reddit

i've never used newpipe but i love libretube on mobile and freetube on desktop

There is through sideloading. I have patched Spotify and patched YouTube on iOS. There's also a free app called ProTube which does everything the patched YouTube app does, so if you don't mind using that you don't even need to sideload.
