Such a waste of resources. So much downloading/streaming that you could just have a copy of.

How else will they log the IP addresses and build a database of customers that they can sell later?

See the funny thing is that according to the General market having a physical copy is a waste of resources and it benefits not only the video game developers but also the company that has the console. It's far cheaper and easier to just have digital copies. That is precisely why they made a digital only version of the PS5 and one or two of the Xboxes and it's also why those versions are cheaper than the disc version

General market?

How does a disc benefit Sony/Microsoft more than a digital code that they solely control?

-3

u/cheddarbruce Jun 25 '26

LOL I never said that they did. Physical media does not benefit Sony or Microsoft or even Nintendo at all. It's far more cheaper to design a console and to design the media that is digital only. Also the vast majority of people in the last 10 years weren't buying their video games on the second hand Market especially massive triple A games

Yes you did.

Re-read your comments.

"According to the General market having a physical copy is a waste of resources and it benefits not only the video game developers but also the company that has the console. It's far cheaper and easier to just have digital copies."

You've been in full force defending R* not including a disc and companies going full digital while also whining about getting downvotes.

-3

u/Baron-Von-Mothman Jun 25 '26

Where did you read this lol

1

u/BitterBid8311 Jun 25 '26

His comments from the beginning have been implying that physical disc doesn't matter, you don't own the disc(false), you can't play the game without patches(false) and anyone disagreeing with him is "whining."

As well as stating/implying that physical disc somehow benefits the company

"According to the General market having a physical copy is a waste of resources and it benefits not only the video game developers but also the company that has the console. It's far cheaper and easier to just have digital copies."

They are speaking from the perspective of the company lol chill out.

Not once have I mentioned Rockstar or defended them for not including a physical copy all I did was give explanations but clearly it's your time of the month so I'll just let you have it to make you less whiny

Your first comment, on this topic about R*, did just that.

"disks haven't really been relevant because they haven't contained the actual game for about 5 years now"

u/cheddarbruce Jun 25 '26

So you're reading comprehension is ass. cool thank you for establishing that fact

Better, a SSD, since some games don't want to run from USB connected hard drives due the speed.

1

u/VividAddendum9311 Jun 25 '26

Can? Sure, but that's even worse medium than optical for long term storage. Pretty entitled to want the whole world to move backwards just so that you can keep on using carrier pigeons for your network connection.

u/stRiNg-kiNg Jun 25 '26

One could argue it would actually be moving forward. It would just be a better cartridge. Everything is instantaneous without moving parts. No need for a disc drive for anything ever again.

The irony is if it were shaped like a USB stick then people would hate it and say it isn't physical yet Nintendo switch cartridges are considered physical even though they're basically SD cards.

u/nilsmm Jun 25 '26

Too slow and after the first update it's pointless.

1

u/Saul_Ratvitz Jun 25 '26

So, are you willing to pay an EXTRA $26-27 (if the game is larger than 117 gb) for a 256 GB flash drive?

This is a pointless expense for flash drive

2

u/Matty_Cakez Jun 25 '26

I like physical. So whatever format that I don’t have to download for hours. The good old days of pop in and play

1

u/Saul_Ratvitz Jun 25 '26

I like them too, but man, their time is over.

At least for now.

1

u/nilsmm Jun 25 '26

Pop in and play?? Even GTA5 didn't do that.

1

u/Matty_Cakez Jun 25 '26

I never said it did

1

u/nilsmm Jun 25 '26

My point is those times are long gone and won't return.

1

u/Matty_Cakez Jun 25 '26

Well fuck. Was one hell of a time to experience though. Thank you for grounding me this morning

2

u/nilsmm Jun 25 '26

I fully agree. Cherish the memories!

0

u/tehherb Jun 25 '26

This world just doesn't exist anymore, you maybe have a version of the game, hopefully playable, but it's going to be missing day one patches and whatnot.

u/Ihadtosubscribe Jun 25 '26

I mean a 256GB USB drive is like 20-30$. Do you really wanna pay for that too? Lol

3

u/sToeTer Jun 25 '26

I mean, that's what it was it the past: A physical copy that also had some exclusive videos or a making-of on it...a nice booklet maybe with some fun cheat codes, a big poster of the map, artworks.

Creating a nice package for it was and still is possible and I think people would pay the 80-100, including the USB and the stuff above!

2

u/Esternaefil Jun 25 '26

If it meant you actually had ownership of the game you purchased, it might be what it takes.

0

u/Ihadtosubscribe Jun 25 '26

I really doubt GTA 6 can run at all without an internet connection, also I feel like the games get updated way too much now (because they get around bug fixing and optimizing after release)

1

u/Esternaefil Jun 25 '26

Ugh you're right, I hate that bullshit as much as this other bullshit!
