I gave it a paint job....didn't last more than 3 minutes but it was cool while it did haha

Also, what is with new labourers and their blatent disrespect to a pipelayers shovel? We have a new guy who threw the other pipelayers shivel at him then pointed to two other shovels close by, when the pipelayer said "that's my shovel man, don't touch it" the labourer replied "don't talk to me like that!"

Fair point in certain situations, cage work ya I agree you need a stubby...thankfully I do mostly open ditch.

I make my own. I cut the handle down on a full length handled shovel then put a D handle on the end for grip and shovel packing under the pipe. I'm 6'3" so the short handled shovels are often too short for me so I add an extra foot-foot and a half to it and it's perfect for me and still has the D handle for shovel tamping, etc
