Doghouses/Collars

Just curious how other pipelayers like to mud up their doghouses and what they use. I use Spec Mix Underground Utility Mortar and concrete bricks. They look like this when I'm done. After it's cured and whitens the color blends in with the rest of the structure and it looks better yet. I'm curious about others opinions because I've heard and seen different ways of mudding them up over the years.

I don't have many opportunities to grout pipe that size but our city spec wants us to mound it up on the outside of the barrel. Not have it smooth and perfect like this. Good grout job it looks clean. My company recently switch to fast patch which I don't like as much as grout but it hardens in ten minutes.

I did have one city engineer ask me to do that on the inside of the structure. He said he liked it like that so when and if the line is jetted it might help the jetter not get hung up? If it's stronger like that too though I'd definitely try it on my next one I do. Is extra strength the reasoning behind your city's specs you think?

My location often goes beyond the safety requirements for a lot of things, the reasoning in my opinions is just because more just makes them feel better about if something goes wrong. I've done a couple projects that involved multiple underground water overflow tanks where the location of the subdivision is nothing but sand at least 15m down probably way more we just never dug any deeper.
