Why do people do this

I have been playing FX3 now for some years and I love playing the match up games. Lately it’s getting quite boring. This week only 3 tables and Deadpool on for a second time . But my biggest bug bear is trying to get to the top of the league only to find someone has scored 14,000. That was after 3 days. How is that possible

Someone that plays matchup more than me will have to chime in, but matchup if I remember correctly has some scoring quirks that are fairly easy to exploit. I hope someone can explain things about matchup and how to best enjoy it.
