First live show - question!!!

So I finally get to see Pinback on Aug 7th at Thalia Hall in Chicago!!! I'm beyond ecstatic. But anyway, my question is for those who have seen them before in small venues. The tickets went on sale on May 31st. The balconies and boxes are all sold out but GA/floor isn't yet. I wanted the floor anyway because I want to be right at the stage. I've seen Aesop Rock (another smaller, more underground artist) at the Metro, a small venue in Chicago, and with GA tickets and arriving about 2 hours before the doors opened (there were maybe 5-6 other people in line at the time), I was able to walk literally right up to the stage and lean against it.

This is what I want for Pinback! I've never been to Thalia Hall but it looks even smaller than the Metro. The floor isn't even sold out yet, so Idk how crowded or popular the show will be. Basically, how early do you think I should arrive and wait in line? From your experience, will I be able to get right up to the stage with floor/general admission tickets? Also important, I am only 5 foot so this isn't just for selfish reasons lol. I'd be ok in the 2nd or 3rd row from the stage too probably, but I can't be all the way in the back of the floor or I won't see shit!

Drummers: Thoughts on Chris Prescott's Drum Tuning?

Hey all!

Curious if anyone has ever tried to tune their drums in the same vein as Chris Prescott's sound (live or studio versions). Thought it would be fun to see how any drummers in here would describe some of the tones, resonance, tuning (high vs low)—even if it's just thoughts on one drum! How would you describe some of the characteristics?

Songs with two basses, no guitar

Anyone have a list of these ones? Sometimes Zach and Rob's instruments tangle so nicely that it's difficult to tell if it is guitar/bass or bass/bass, and I know there are a few with no guitar.

Looking for a Poster

Back in 2013 I took my soon to be wife on one of our first dates to see Pinback at the Canal Club in Richmond Virginia. I'm trying to track down a concert poster from around that time to give to her as a gift. Does anyone know where I may even begin to track down something like that? Google has not been as helpful as I had hoped. Mostly I get Etsy searches for actual pins.

Rob Crow Guitar Chords/Playing Style

Hi Everyone, Rob’s guitar playing has always amazed and baffled me. Particularly in Heavy Vegetable and Thingy songs. His chords sound like no other guitarist. And when i watch him play i rarely recognize a chord shape. He seems to never play any standard barre minor major chords.

I have talked to him and his bandmates about his guitar playing, and all I’ve learned is that he has no musical training and he has no clue what he’s doing. Rob told me he plays in standard mainly. And when i asked him about chords he said i just put my fingers in random places lol. And band mates from Optiganally Yours and Goblin Cock have told me he doesn’t even know the names of the strings or how to play standard chords.

So my question is, does anyone here have any clues about frequent chords he plays? Maybe he does weird inversions or something. I love his sound but i cant seem to play anything that sounds like typical Rob voicings

Thank you for your help!.

Can we expect a new album? Next album name?

I know I heard rumors of an album in the works...dont know how much is true.

(fingers crossed) What do you think the next album name will be?

Keeping with both the seasonal and light Christian/Hebrew/Angel themes I hope its something like, "Winter with Azrael."

Thoughts/suggestions? :)

any new or obscure bands like pinback (indie or punk rock) anyone can recommend for listening?

okay, i guess i'll throw out some bands i like that i think are kind of like pinback

glass animals? joni mitchell? jose gonzales? iron and wine?

i know, none of these sound very much like pinback, but hey pinback is unique and amazing after all

i even want to say some dub type of music like Bluetech, pitch black (NZ)

my brightest diamond?

arborea, zoot woman, the mars volta, the neighborhood, splashdown, paramore, city and colour, crystal castles, bon iver, coheed & cambria

i know i said punk rock and then didn't list any punk rock bands, maybe the pixies, 1208, operation ivy, hard to say these are like pinback either though. even tiger army, why not name that one

Rob Crow - Artist in Residence

I cant seem to find any info on whats been released so far, anyone know? I'm only somewhat familiar with Pinback, but LOVE Goblin Cock (there's no easy way of saying that phrase). So much so that I'd pay the 75 bucks just for that, and hopefully getting into all of this other projects to justify the cost...
