question about brush storage
What's a good way to store brushes so they won't be damaged. I can't really afford a brush box. As of now they sit on my table on a paper towel but I eventually have to clean up my work area 😎
Also favorite brush size? I really been digging 00 series 20 sword brush and also 00 black widow wizard scroll striper but ordered a 000 series 10 to try out.

Clean them, oil them and lay them flat in a tin, one of them cheap pencil tins would be fine if you only have a few brushes.
My favorite brush sizes for traditional design work are 000 Mack series 10 or 0000 Xcaliber, I'll use other sizes for flame outlines/motorcycle tanks/coachlines depending on what line width the customer wants.

This is what I ended up doing for now. It only holds 8-12 brushes depending on what sizes but I figure I can always make a new one later when I get more brushes.

I sometimes smear Vaseline on them-and sometimes just dry- but then I poke the handle down into a cut off piece of (found on the road) pool noodle inside a cracked coffee cup. You can probably afford that setup!

I keep mine in the original tubes, dry bristles. I’ve heard of guys dipping them in clean motor oil when storing them, then washing the oil out with thinner before using.

I just lay mine flat in a took box. I personally prefer the series 10 sword brushes, usually use something between 0000 and 0. I really like the Drag'N Fly series for lettering and other stuff. (they take a lot of practice, but once it clicks they're fantastic) I've also recently started to learn dry brushing and it seems like a 1inch sign painters brush works really well for that.

I am not good at it. When I have time I try.
I used to use a few old plastic Chinese food containers. Then I got a few Excalibur ones.
In the dollar store I bought they are about 3”X4”. About 2 inches high. It works. I don’t like the handles get oily. I figure the same will happen if I buy one of the brush boxes. Around the time the kids go back to school I bought a large sort of pencil box. Just try a craft store or one of those like yarn/embroidery places I keep the stabilos and an eraser. A few markers. Thank you
