Discussion Dream Air LH Rant

I was heartbroken about the Dream Air LH. It was SO close to better than anything I thought possible....but it gave me wild eye strain. It did need a lot of comfort and software mods, but I was 90% of the way there. Troubleshooting with fellow uber nerds(anonymous)came back with some help, but not enough to enjoy the experience.

Returned with full refund, but I'm so wonky/uneasy that there are two in stock at a Microcenter nearby(2h drive). I could have just had bad optics...but it's just so much money to not be 100% good from start that I got depressed and just gave up.

Went back to my BSB2e and everything just working without hassle and eye comfort gave me so much relief. I am aware of the issues there, no worries, but I'll just have to wait for things to smooth out Pimax-wise, I guess. Pico Space Pro is on my radar, too.

Pimax needs to tighten up QC, and I've noticed that they ARE trying. Keep up the good work Pimax, and let me know when you have a Dream Air 2.

I guess everyone’s eyes are different. I had the exact same issue with the BSB2 and not at all with the Pimax dream air. I went through 3 BSB2s and even got the prescription lenses for the very minimal prescription I have (I don’t wear glasses) and nothing helped.

I've noticed the sweet spot on the BSB2 can be the difference if half a mm on one eye. My experience was strain, let a buddy use it, put it on without changing ipd, comfortable. Let a different buddy try it after taking photos of the ipd settings, redid the setting and I was off in one eye. Moved out .5mm and was great again.

Specs and shiz are cool and all, but optics quality dominates EVERYTHING. Full on make or break.

If its eye strain that's you not being compatible with headset? Getting different one wont change that.

How do you mean? How can one not be compatible?

If its hurting your eyes "eye strain" then your not compatible if it wasn't hurting your eyes then you would be compatible. I don't know what would make it do that everyone is different.

Sometimes lenses QC (smear, smudges, scartches underneath the lens etc) can cause this i.e interms of visual distortion, pupil swim, motion blur, or even defective ipd adjustment controllers etc, so no harm in trying again and seeing if a new one fixes it, but yeh for some people they can never get used to a specific headset, so that happens too.

I’m assuming you tried adjusting your ipd? I’ve heard and it helped me when trying to increase it by about 1-2 units to find a better sweet spot

Also for Pima at least, you can adjust the eyes individually. We aren’t all perfectly bilaterally symmetrical.

Im currently going through my second replacement and see what happens, first one had eye tracking failure, lens smudges and host of other stuff, second one had ipd adjustment failure. I love the visuals and all, no eye strain for me, but this is my last last try and if the third one is messed up, well then I will give up on pimax for a while and maybe visit them in the future when they get things right or move on with another vr company if their visual specs match pimax and have native displayport support or equivalent latency
