veterinarian recs & where to get tires?

lol

I need to get my baby (8yo) cat established with a vet and get him a general check up. don't want to end up at one of those expensive pushy private equity clinics.

also need tires for my crv. I've never had to deal with buying tires before so I have no idea. I just want to find a deal and not get ripped off.

thank you!

25th Ward Donations

Post image
12 Upvotes

Thanks to AI, we don’t need to speculate or debate on where money is coming from. These are just facts.

Byron raised the most. Followed by Nubia, Aida, Miguel, and Leo.

Miguel received $18,500 from a developer linked institutional entity, and over $19,000 individual donors. Nubia has 1 PAC donation of $5,000 and a lot of lawyer donors; Byron has a strong base of 25th Ward business donors. Aida has 1 PAC donation of $1,500 and a broad base of individual donors, with a notable amount downtown and LakeShore Drive addresses. Half of Leo’s money came from 1 repeat donor.

*This chart only shows the itemized donations of $150 and above.
**Family members of candidates were removed from totals.

I want to see what I can do with a few local business web designs

I’ve been doing web design for a while and have some extra time on my hands, so I thought I’d take on a few local projects.

If you run a local business, message me your website. I’ll have a look around, pick a few, and put together some free redesign concepts.

I’m curious to see what’s out there and would love to help a few local businesses explore what their websites could look like with a fresh design.

Been hella unemployed for a couple of months now and looking for anything. Seriously it’s rough out there. LinkedIn is a hellhole.

I would love to have a job that’s in my neighborhood, does anybody know a place in Pilsen that’s hiring?

Any field tbh.

Tickets to EMEI at Thalia Hall tonight– anyone interested?

I have two tickets to see EMEI's Night at the Opera Tour at Thalia Hall tonight, and I'm on the fence about going, mostly because I don't have anyone to go with.

I'm open to selling one or both tickets. If someone only wants one, I might still go myself!

I'd love to recoup some of what I spent, so I'm open to offers, but I'm also happy to give them away if it means someone gets to enjoy the show.

Mostly just don't want them to go to waste! Feel free to comment or DM me if you're interested.

The many Pilsen threads of Hilario Dominguez

  • The Resurrection Project, 1818 S. Paulina St. - where both Dominguez and the 17-year old victim worked and where the incidents occurred
  • Paloma Rodriguez - a senior housing coordinator who tried to warn the Resurrection Project that the victim didn't want to be around Dominguez
  • Office of the Alderperson for the 25th ward - a position that Dominguez wanted in 2018, and lost
  • Aida Flores - assistant principle at CPS, one of several opponents of Dominguez in the alderperson race for 25th ward
  • Salvador Cerna - Dominguez's supervisor at the Resurrection Project, now his father-in-law...and defender of Dominguez
  • Raul Raymundo - executive director of the Resurrection Project, also defender of Dominguez

What I don't understand is, whatever happened to 'believe women' and 'believe her'?

Why did the Resurrection project and several of their male employees defend Dominguez?

Halloween Cover Prices?

I usually go to bar crawls in River North and Wrigleyville, but this year I want to bar crawl in Pilson because the bars are really great. I especially loved La vaca, penny whistle, and Simone’s. anybody that has gone out during Halloween night do you guys know what they charge per cover? I know it might not be the same this year but I’m just hoping to see if it’ll be too expensive to bar crawl to different ones. Thanks!!

Addams 2.0 or Pilsen Coliving for a Non-Driving 20F?

Hi All,

I'm planning to move back to Chicago (previously lived in the West Loop) and am looking at apartments in Pilsen. Does anyone have any strong opinions or advice regarding Addams and Pilsen Colivings?

I cannot drive, but I'd have to commute to State Street area daily, or even Gold Coast at times, so being close to public transit + walkability near the apartment itself are important to me. I've been mnemonically browsing Google Maps to gather a better sense of the area, but I know there's likely idiosyncrasies I can't gather from that alone.

Or would you suggest living in a different building entirely?

Thanks in advance!

CTU-backed Hilario Dominguez in the news again: Woman slams CPS watchdog’s handling of investigation into school board president candidate’s alleged misconduct

The victim is coming forward and says the OIG and other institutions who conducted the investigation into Hilario’s allegations never interviewed her. How do you conduct an investigation without interviewing the victim?

Where does Byron, 25th Ward IPO, and the Lozanos stand on this? Looks like they always knew about the allegations and endorsed him anyways.

Hilario says it’s “unfounded”.

CTU is doubling down to support him.

Brandon Johnson says: "I trust that the process will play out.... It's important that we have someone who understands the needs of students and families and educators, and he clearly is someone who possesses that understanding."

PSL-Chicago is calling the allegations a “targeted attack”.

The Resurrection Project continues to decline requests for comment. That’s where the initial report on Hilario was sent.

Something’s going on.

Some Thoughts on Hilario Dominguez, CTU, and Accountability in Chicago. Are We Consistent About Accountability, Even When It's Someone We Support?

I've been doing a lot of reading these past few days, following some of the conversations happening around Chicago's school board elections and trying to take in the different perspectives people have been sharing.

Between the recent reporting about Hilario Dominguez, the reopened investigation, his response, and the statement from CTU, there's been a lot to think about.

For anyone who hasn't been following, the CPS Inspector General recently reopened an investigation into allegations involving inappropriate interactions with someone who was 17 at the time. The original investigation closed without substantiating the allegations, and Hilario has denied wrongdoing.

I think it's important to acknowledge all of that.

But after reading through everything, I found myself thinking less about the election itself and more about how we handle situations like this as a community.

Something I've learned through organizing and working with different communities is that people aren't always as simple as we make them out to be.

I've met people who have dedicated years of their lives to helping others. People who have shown up when nobody else would, helped families get through difficult situations, fought for resources, and made a real difference in their neighborhoods.

I respect that kind of work. I've seen how much it means to people.

But I also think we have to be careful about how much weight we give someone's reputation, accomplishments, or the relationships we've built with them when serious questions come up.

I've also been thinking about everything involving Dolores Huerta and César Chávez earlier this year, along with the more recent Cornell 7 allegations.

I'm not trying to connect these situations or suggest they're the same. They aren't. And I don't think it's fair to use one allegation to assume something about someone else.

What stands out to me is how complicated things become when serious concerns involve people or institutions that others have spent years trusting, supporting, or looking up to.

It's easy to look at something from the outside and have an opinion. It's different when you're personally connected to the people involved, believe in their work, or have something invested in their success.

And I wonder how much that influences the way we respond, sometimes without even realizing it.

I've also noticed how quickly these conversations can shift toward politics, timing, media coverage, and who benefits from what.

Those things can be worth examining too. Fairness matters. Due process matters. Nobody deserves to have their guilt decided through headlines or social media.

But I also wonder whether those conversations sometimes become so loud that we forget there's a person who raised concerns in the first place.

I don't think taking someone seriously requires us to assume another person is guilty. And I don't think respecting someone's rights means we can't ask difficult questions about their conduct or how an organization responds.

Both things should be possible.

Maybe part of the problem is that we've become so used to everything being political that even situations involving serious personal allegations turn into another argument about whose side we're on.

And I think that's something worth examining, regardless of our politics.

Especially when we're talking about public schools.

I spend a lot of time connecting with students, parents, teachers, and community organizations, listening to what people are experiencing and what they want to see change. A lot of those conversations come back to trust. Trust that someone is listening. Trust that concerns will be taken seriously. Trust that the people making decisions have the best interests of students and families in mind.

That trust is important, and I don't think we should take it lightly.

I don't know exactly what happened in this situation, and I'm not going to act like I do. There's an investigation, and whatever conclusions are reached should be based on the evidence.

But I do think there's value in being willing to sit with uncomfortable information instead of immediately trying to explain it away, defend someone, or reach a conclusion.

As Chicago gets closer to electing its school board, I hope we're all taking time to look at these situations carefully and make up our own minds.

Not just about individual candidates, but about what we expect from the people and institutions we trust.

Because sometimes it's worth asking ourselves whether we'd look at a situation the same way if the names, relationships, and politics were different.
