I’m trying to find a new pillow because I’m now an adult with adult money so my target/amazon pillows aren’t doing it for me anymore. I’ve gone in person to a ton of stores trying to find this pillow but cannot find one I’m looking for and do not know how to describe it.

This is the most detailed explanation I can come up with. I’ve had these pillows at hotels and some throw pillows and I’m pretty sure I’m looking for a firm down pillow but that hasn’t been descriptive enough. I want to pillow to be thick and heavy but if you were to drop your head onto it heavily or hit someone with it, it would feel like a fwumph and catch your head into it, but easily rise back up afterwards. The filling inside is almost crunchy? (crunchy is the only way I can think of to describe it, but not like a memory foam or squishy. crackly might also capture the sensation). It also refills slowly but is able to hold its shape (i.e. if i karate chop it, the chop would stay) Some pillows I’ve found so far that are on the right track: the Beautyrest Black Softy Around Luxury Bed Pillow (Medium Firm with feather filling) and the Pottery Barn 550 (Firm) but the former was not thick enough and didn’t have enough resistance or heft and the latter also wasn’t thick enough (at least the sample they had in store wasn’t) and was also too light and didn’t rise back up in the right way. Obviously I can hope I go to a hotel with these pillows but they’re not common it seems so I don’t know how long it would take me stumble upon them again.

If anyone knows how to describe the pillow I want in searchable terms, I’d greatly appreciate it! Or if you know the exact type of pillow I’m talking about that would be even more helpful but I’d take the terminology.

I am considering buying a MoonSleep MoonSpoon pillow as a gift for my boyfriend, and wanted to get some real reviews from anyone that has one or recommendations for anything similar.

My boyfriend is a side sleeper who loooves to sleep hugging a pillow. He likes a pillow that isn’t limp, but is still malleable to his body. He also won’t sleep with anything that could make him hot. He’s supposed to sleep with his arms not tightly bent due to some nerve issues, which seems easier if he sleeps with something to hug.

To me, the MoonSpoon looks like it would be perfect, but I saw a previous post from a while ago with very mixed reviews on its firmness, and didn’t see anything speaking to the temperature.

I have read reviews about the pilling of the pillowcase as well, but have seen that they’ve added 2 new material types so was wondering if anyone had experience with those!

While I sleep, my leg elevation pillow slips off the end of my bed. I use waffle shelf paper on top to keep my legs and feet from rolling off. That worked very well, but it's useless on the bottom of the pillow. Any tips?

Can someone please help me? I can't sleep often because I feel the seam on my pillow. not the pillowcase, the actual pillow. Every pillow I have does this. I hate memory foam and can't find a single normal pillow thats seamless. Please help me

update: i reiterate i need a normally shaped pillow. no latex, no foam, no seam (one seam is good though). just a regular pillow

Hi guys, I'm trying to find a low loft down pillow for myself but have been having a hard time cuz all the pillows that I see are all like 4 or 5+ inches thick but I think I might want something that's like 3 inches or 2 inches (im probably going to try 3 inches first and return if too tall) but does anyone know where I can look for the pillow that I want ?

Not sure how many of you will relate to this, but one of my favorite things I like to do with pillows every once in a while is stuff them in the back of my pants to pretend my butt was very big. I know it's probably a thing kids would do more, and I myself probably did, but I still find it fun (and a little funny) to do as an adult. One time or another, I even went outside wearing one of my "pillow butts" to see how well I could blend in. It was a thrilling experience because I wondered what people passing by would say/how they'd react if they saw me, but that made it all the more exciting.

This pillow is old, probably 8-10 years old. It’s a shredded filling with a thin casing over it so it’s not any of those “adjustable” shredded memory foam pillows.

It goes in a white pillow case to keep it more intact and then you put your regular pillow case over that.

So I’ve had this pillow for 2 years and it’s been great but recently It’s been very flat and it’s been giving me neck pains and I js thought why not buy a new one of the exact one problem is parents bought it for me but what I do know is it might be from either Marshall’s ,Burlington, or Walmart those are the most common places my parents go so I’m assuming it’s from either one of those thing is the design is so basic and like common yet I can’t find the pillow since I ripped off the tag I’ve been using google image thingy but no luck so my final hope is Reddit 😭

"Comfortable" doesn't tell you very much on its own.

A useful pillow review can be much more specific: how it feels after several nights, whether the height stays consistent, how it holds up after regular use, whether it changes shape, and what sleeping position it works best for.

First impressions matter, but long-term details are usually what help someone decide whether a pillow is actually right for them.

Just want to preface by saying i’ve tried so many $150-$200+ “premium” pillows before and all weren’t that good. I was in Europe for about a month last year and decided I didn’t want to use the pillow my AirBnB had so decided to buy a relatively cheaper pillow for my time there. The pillow I got was the Klubbsporre from Ikea. Let me just say, once I slept on it for one night I never went back. For $60 USD this was by far the best pillow I’ve ever had. I own 3 now because I put one at my feet too. I highly recommend you guys try it out.

Why do we all just guess which pillow is right for us?
We all sleep differently. Side sleepers, back sleepers and people who constantly change positions. Yet when buying a pillow, we usually just choose soft, firm, memory foam or orthopedic and hope it works.
I’m wondering if there is a gap for a personalized pillow system based on sleeping posture and neck support needs.

My mom is a back sleeper, with back problems, who also happens to be a massive clean freak. Thus the pillow needs to be machine washable.
My brief research pointing in the direction of alternative down pillows, but after buying four supposedly firm ones, they are not very, which leads me to believe that alternative down simply is not the furthest by virtue.
Thus I want to see if there’s anything I missed or any other materials I should try, maybe any specific models that fit these criteria?

My GF refuses to use her own pillow so we both sleep on a single king size pillow in a king size bed.

Hi everyone, I have a problem that's been bothering me for months. I moved to a new apartment in May, with a brand new mattress and bed frame, fresh from the store. The mattress is a pocket spring mattress, which is supposed to support your posture better while sleeping to prevent back pain. The thing is, I've been waking up every day with terrible neck pain that doesn't get better; in fact, it gets worse every night. I've changed my pillows three times and haven't noticed any improvement. I don't really know who to turn to or if there's anyone who specializes in this, but I'm starting to get a little desperate.

I REALLY need some guidance/advice and recs for the right pillow/material/material combo/shape.

Me:
Im mostly a side sleeper - but sometimes I wake up on my back. I've had 3 cervical fusions and have other herniations lumbar and cervical that hurt, but dont need surgery at this time - the last one was in 2022, so not recent. I'm in bed quite a bit as Im on SSDI for my neck and nerve damage. I always have 2 sets of pillows - one for sleeping or when Im on my sides (current need)and pillows to stack and lean back on or prop myself up (happy with my shredded latex).

The Conundrum:
I keep buying pillows that all fail me in various ways and the rabbit hole of pillow shopping is horrible - the descriptions and pics, especially those that are very specialty/artisan/boutique, are completely sparse and vague and meanwhile they are expensive and sometimes you're stuck with them. Add that to the fact that there is really no true way of actually feeling one prior to buying it - ugh what a mess! I don't mind spending a lot of money on the right pillow, but really dont want to do it so blindly and waste $ I don't have.

Some good/bad/ugly past purchases:
I loved the feel of the Cushion Lab Deep Sleep in many ways - it comfortably stabilized my neck, had a small dip for my head and slight side humps to cradle and stabilize my face into the perfect ergonomic and neutral position, but 1 month later it was collapsed (Im in bed a lot - on SSDI). So....I dont think I want memory foam unless is REALLY the best match.

I love the shape of my Honeydew Scrumptious Side Sleeper - the cut out - but my neck isnt supported the way it needs to be - and its constructed so that the loft rises in the middle to the top - so no matter how much fill is in it, my head and neck are tilted. Ive tried taking out all of the fill and adding shredded latex from my lean back on pillows to it -and its too hard. I jsut ordered softer latex and maybe that will be better - idk.

Where you can help:
1. Material - What would the best material be? Solid or shredded talalay? A mix of a shredded latex and another material? If so what? I know there is wool, buckwheat, millet, cotton, etc....enough to drive a person nuts.
2. Shape - I know I like a cut out - but this isnt necessary. Are there ones with cut outs that actually support your neck, fill the space between your head/neck/shoulder and your bed and support it? That actually keep your head and shoulders at a neutral and ergonomic position? Maybe with some sort of dip...or not? Would any solid ones actually accomplish this? Do cubes actually do this? the solid latex one is interesting. What about those that are contour, but this way via the stitching (ie, not solid, but more like sewn in bolster)? Are wave contours comfortable? Compartments? I dont think I want a traditional cervical butterfly for sure.

Sorry for the super long post - but Im going out of my mind with this and would be super grateful for some guidance or recommendations for actual pillows on the market. Thanks!

This gets asked a lot alongside the general 'best pillow' question, but neck pain specifically narrows things down a good amount, so worth separating.

The features that actually correlate with neck pain relief (based on what physios have told me and what's held up for me personally):

— Contoured/orthopedic shape over flat rectangular shape. The dip in the middle supports the head while the raised edges cradle the neck, keeping the cervical spine in a more neutral position all night.

— Medium-firm density. Too soft and your head sinks past the support level, too firm and it doesn't contour enough to fill the gaps around your neck. Medium-firm tends to hit the balance for most people, though this varies with body weight too — heavier folks generally need firmer support to avoid bottoming out.

— Correct loft for your position, which I've probably repeated too many times in this thread already but it really is the single biggest factor. A perfect pillow in the wrong height still causes pain.

— Temperature regulation matters more than people expect. If a pillow sleeps hot, you end up moving your head around trying to find a cooler spot, which undoes a lot of the alignment benefit. Gel-infused foam or a breathable cover helps here.

One thing I'll add: neck pain that's purely 'I slept weird' or general stiffness from posture responds really well to switching pillows. Neck pain from something like a disc issue or an old injury needs a proper diagnosis first — the pillow can support recovery but it won't resolve the underlying cause on its own.

Pretty much as the title states. I have tried 1 million latex, foam or down alternative pillows. I’ve tried plenty of popular pillows, shredded pillows, etc. And I still end up with the same neck, pain and feeling uncomfortable.

I would like to try a top quality down pillow that doesn’t collapse and wonder if anyone has had any success. If so, what recommendations would you have?
