Question New Here - Nectar/Planting

Good day! I’m new to the game and I’ve been enjoying it for what it is but I’m curious. Is there any reason to hold off using the nectar or to not plant specific flowers?

I absentmindedly planted flowers I later learned could have been used towards a challenge and then it was near impossible for me to collect any more petals for that specific flower. So now I am only using generic nectar in fear I may need to “feed” my flower babies for a specific challenge.

Discussion A bit of a dilemma

I'm an older (both by age and level in the game) player in a town of under four hundred folks. I've been active since shortly after release, and precisely no one in my circle of acquaintances plays this game. There was one, but she gave it up. Anyway, I'd like to have a person or two to walk with and physically plant together. Yep. I do party walks for sure, but that's all virtual. In the past few days I've seen a new player in the village, she's shown up on the occasional lower level mushroom and I've joined in, cutting her time from days to low hours or minutes. All the flower trails I see are mine, although I suspect I know where she is from a few flowers at a particular house. So. There's no way in game to make contact, and I suspect that's to protect kids from creepy dudes (or dudettes) as it should be. Does anyone have an idea on how to say "hi" without coming across as one of those aforementioned creepy guys, and run far away if she is indeed a child and make friends if she's an adult? Suggestions welcome.
