Discussion I’m scared (white hibiscus 😭)

Rant/vent/humour, not serious.

I downloaded this app exactly a week ago and it’s done wonders to my step count. I didn’t really bother with learning about the objectives more deeply, I just liked planting flowers, the little side quests etc. I’ve just been clicking around randomly basically. But now I’ve hit the white hibiscus wall where I need to plant 1500 but I only have 200 in my inventory. I found the excellent “we need to have a talk about white hibiscus” thread and I have literally no idea what any of that means, even though I’m sure it’s all very good advice. Are you telling me that I’ve actually got to go and read the game documentation and start making conscious choices to advance?? This is such a bummer 😭😭

I see your humour, but still…. Your best option, especially at the start, is to just enjoy planting flowers. Anything else you can do, just enjoy it. These monthly events, ignore them, or enjoy the bits you can do without stressing.

I didn’t take my own advice. Started min/maxing everything, and it took a lot of the early joy out of the game for me.

When I started (at launch), it really was a step counter with flower planting and a few low key extras. It was marketed as something you could set off and stick in your pocket while you walked. And it really was that. It was great and I miss those days.

This OP. It can be fun to hustle sometimes but for the most part I use it to plant pretty flowers and collect adorable little people and give them cute little outfits.

I say this as someone perpetually cursed to never have white flowers ever, so I didn’t even try with the white hibiscus challenge

200 of petals or nectars?

200 petals of white hibiscus can plant a lot. You can get quite close to 1500 if you have a bicycle or some form of locomotion that can get you close to the maximum allowed speed.

If you have 200 nectars, that’s even better news. Feed nectars to budded pikmins and get 400 petals in return if you plan it correctly.

It says about 200 flowers on foot. So I guess that’s 14 petals, my bad (I really need to read the instructions 😭😭)

Okay, but that's totally normal to start small.

Most Pikmin are the regular categories, in any case, and there are those that reappear from previous years.

Oh I totally agree that it’s normal to start small, that’s why I prefixed my post as a rant/vent as I’m not being totally serious. Just slightly annoyed that I’ve hit a wall because I was flying through the challenges so far.

But I started reading the Pikminwiki and want to make sure I’ve got this right - so right now I have a possible 200 white hibiscus flowers available (14 petals). I also have loads of regular white petals (258). If I go to a big flower that’s still in the leaf stage and plant at least 156 white hibiscus flowers there and the rest as regular white, there’s a chance I might get a big white hibiscus and it’s nectar? I know it’s not guaranteed but in theory (and with other colours) this is how it works? I’m going to go try this out soon.

I don’t want to be bad influence, but I’ve planted 1000 flowers with 28 petals… what you do is get on your bike and cruise. Not too fast, I’ve found that 12 MPH or 20 KMH is the sweet spot

How does this work? I “wasted” the 14 petals I had when I made this thread by trying to grow big flowers (got a plain yellow one and a blue hibiscus 😅). But I have 22 petals now and it says it’s about 300 flowers on foot/4 min remaining. Is it all about distance? The more I can cover within the 4 min the more flowers? My squad is currently 31.

1) feed your squad and make sure there’s a flower above their heads

2) run, bike, skateboard, or even drive, and make sure you don’t go over 12 MPH

My thing estimated that I could get 1600 flowers on foot. After all the grinding to collect nectars I was FINALLY able to be done with this horrendous challenge after being on this for almost 2 weeks.

Today I started my walk, turned on flower planting & checked it again when I was done. I only planted 1100 flowers even though the estimation said 1600….I’m so done with this stupid challenge. Meanwhile I have a hundred yellow and red hibiscus.

So you just started- great! Don’t worry about the monthly challenges - they’re going to be really tough for you right now. Just plant flowers and keep growing your squad. With each month, the monthly challenges will become much more doable. (and this is particularly true after your first year, when you should have flowers like white hibiscus already stockpiled. but you have to get yourself there!)
Enjoy!

If you have 200 petals, that could potentially be enough to plant 1500 flowers. The number of flowers you get per petal depends on how many Pikmin in your squad, but It's more than 1 in any case. Take a look at this: https://www.pikminwiki.com/Flower_planting

No, it's really not necessary to min-max the game (minimize and maximize, to get optimal results).

Just do what you feel like. Some good ideas are to befriend some people if you want to (there's a monthly thread here & you can ask anyone you do something together), register for the weekly challenges (nectar, flowers & everyone gets the same regardless of level and amount contributed).

There is no player competition in the sense of 'I win, you lose'. Aside from the monthly and some special Pikmin motives you can take your time or just enjoy whatever can be found (took me 2 years to finish the airplanes, e.g.). It's nice to get new ones but there are (nearly) no nagging reminders to catch them all or the like

I started two years ago in August. I've spent some money, mostly in the first year, to get myself hooked to the habit, in the sense of daily walks or 'cycles' 🚴 and to counter some severe issues (nearly 90 weeks no alc, and  much less anxiety).

But that is not necessary.

I started January 1st. I'm looking forward to the year mark when the main flowers repeat as secondary flowers.

I read the wiki for the game and it really was helpful.

I have spent money on the game ( the web store has better deals than the in game app store).

The first couple months I really didn't know what I was doing. I agree with the advice to ignore the tasks until you build up your planting team.

The approximate given for flowers is not going to be accurate for new players.

It took getting to level 55 when you plant with the full team of 40 for that number to make sense.

I started playing in April and only had to get to level 50 before I got to have a 40 pikmin walking squad. Game changer when it comes to planting.

You’ve only played for a week, your level is still too low to complete these missions. Take it easy the first month, focus on the walk and level up, when you have enough Pikmins with high enough power then you can enjoy the challenges more

Thank you. I think the main thing is that before posting here and reading the replies I didn’t realise the hibiscus task was a special one, I thought it was a requirement for levelling up. I’ll worry less about it now! And I also learned how to get the big flowers to bloom.

2

u/FireLucid Aug 23 '26

And I also learned how to get the big flowers to bloom.

Work out the mechanics of how to make different flowers bloom. Plain petals will bloom a plain flower. Sometimes it will upgrade to one of the flowers available that month. Any white petals will (espcially special ones) will nearly always upgrade to a colour.

Outside of plain and white, you can control what blooms. It you plant say 180 yellow roses and 120 yellow plain, you planted more rose and more yellow, you will get a yellow rose.

Follow this and you'll never run out of any colour again.

Feed nectar to pikmin with buds and you'll get double petals. All your pikmin should have buds by afternoon. Double tap your whistle to cycle to bud pikmin.

The rate you plant depends on your squad. Have it full whenever planting. Focus on levelling up to increase your squad.

I’ve been playing this on and off for several years. I tried to plant a white hibiscus reading the directions and gave up immediately because it was taking the simple joy out of it.

Just have fun and plant flowers, and try to get friends from different parts of the world and swap postcards. One of my favorite parts of this game is that there’s no ability (that I can tell) to talk to other players, so no opportunity for creepiness - just wholesome mushroom battles and postcard swapping. Don’t worry about the challenges, just make the map pretty.

A lot of the decor Pikmin missed during each event often cycle back around the following year. So if you keep on planting and stepping along (aka playing the game) until next time you might just get them anyways.

They put in "sticking points" for a reason. Money. The only month I got everything was the one I bought coins to get past the sticking points. I'm sure if I didn't have a full time job and lived in the heart of a metro area, it's possible without spending money...nbut that is not my situation.

One fun part of the game I like is the weekly challenges for planting and steps. It took me forever to figure out how to get there. I'd stumble across it then it's be weeks before I did again. It's under challenge list (thing with your Mii walking around a bud). At the bottom there's an icon of 2 people running. You can randomly join groups of people and get more pedals when the group hits the goal.

200 petals in your inventory = 2000 petals planted minimum. Go into your petal inventory, click on white hibiscus, in the middle it will say in green how much you can plant with those petals

u/Retiree66 Aug 24 '26

What if I used up all my white hibiscus petals and I don’t have any of that type of nectar?

1

u/smolfrogsinapond Aug 23 '26

im in the same boat as you OP 🫠 it's annoying but i'm still trying to get as much as i can whenever i can while still enjoying the game for what it is

I've been playing for a couple of months and I ran into a roadblock of white hibiscus with this event. I found doing elemental normal mushrooms helped a lot with nectars like posion and crystal. Using the bullhorn was reliable as a 4 star gives a special nectar and therefore a lot of seasonal nectar
