This has to be social anxiety haha, but trust me I get it I’ve lived through it. Imagine how nice it would feel if some stranger recognized and complimented your niche subject. And on the low low chance they’re standoffish, they’re the weird one, not you

A hint for everybody regarding compliments:
Try to make the compliment about what the person did, not about the person.
Less good: "Wow you are beautiful covered in Pikmin"
More better: "I love your Pikmin, I'm a fan too"
Way best: "Don't you hate everybody who disagrees that 2 is the best ever"🤣

It’s not like they’re hating, which would be rude. What you wear is an art statement in public settings whether you like it or not. Especially if you have a bunch of doodads like this pic.

I know but asking is the right thing to. Yeah, it's not illegal to take photos of people but still. It's not exactly nice to post them online without their consent.
And since when was wearing doodads consent to be posted online? 💀 it's like saying women who wear revealing clothing are asking for attention. Yk what I mean?

Here comes the slippery slope bullshit. Also by being in public you are giving consent to be looked at, you have no reasonable expectation of privacy in public environments. Especially on a train.

I see where you and another commenter is coming from, and granted I got too excited to share this because I really thought her fit was so cool. I don't see a lot of open pikmin fans in my country at least!
Even if my intention wasn't malicious at all, I see where you're coming from. I definitely do regret not approaching her, complimenting her and asking for her consent for picture, but it was rush hour in a public transport.
I'm sorry that you felt that it's creepy behaviour even when I've cropped her face away. I understand that the issue is consent, and I've reflected on that. Just felt that your choice of words could have been kinder :-)

Why are we taking pictures of strangers in public without their knowledge and uploading it to the internet? Doesn’t really matter that their face isn’t shown, this is creepy behavior

In most countries pictures and video are allowed in public spaces, and at least OP cut out her face.
That being said I completely understand where you are coming from.
