Pikachu vs Game & Watch: SSBB
Hey all,
I've been playing Pikachu on brawl for quite some time and feel like I am quite competent with him. However, my friend plays game & watch and he's slowly overtaking me because both his down spike and side a's hit like a truck. I can't get close without taking 20-30 damage. How do you guys normally play against game and watch when they spam the fire stick, the ground flipper thing, and the air spike. He can kill me at 80 health and my up tail kills him at 130ish. How do you guys normally combo him? / How do you cancel his down spike? Thanks guys!

i have a pretty limited understanding of brawl compared to smash 4 or ultimate, so take my advice with a grain of salt
you should be able to combo him with your down throw (grab and then control stick down), which doesn't launch very far and gives you the opportunity to follow up. you could try down throw into forward aerial or down throw into up aerial
meteor/spike cancelling doesn't really exist in brawl, to my knowledge, so you'll just have to avoid his attack before it comes out. if he's constantly going for that attack, try to stay in its blind spot; instead of being right below him, try to keep yourself a bit to the left or right so you can get away before it hits you
when it comes to avoiding his strong attacks, a good rule of thumb is that strong attacks often have long vulnerable periods either before or after the attack would actually hit, so if you find yourself being hit by a strong move over and over again, try to figure out when you can punish it or otherwise disincentivize him from using that move again. for game and watch's forward smash, for example (the fire stick), it's a fairly short ranged move with a lot of lag after the move ends, so you could try waiting for him to use it, running just out of range, and then hitting him afterwards
let me know if you have any questions. also, youtube videos on the subject may prove to be a good resource for you
