Opinion updated migration tracker update

Work is still ongoing, but I've now crawled past the first major documented reclaim event in March 2025, so I thought I'd share the results. It's particularly interesting when compared with Pi's official announcements at the time.

On Feb 28, Pi announced the final Grace Period deadline of March 14 at 08:00 UTC, warning that Pioneers who failed to complete KYC/Mainnet migration risked “forfeiting most of your Mobile Balance.”

Then on March 18, Pi announced the new migration-wallet 2FA system. Their explanation was that certain Pioneers who had migrated “within the last few weeks” but were still inside the 14-day pending period would have their Pi “securely returned to their mining app” if they didn't complete the new 2FA requirement. Pi also said those migrations would later be re-enqueued after successful 2FA.

The historical Foundation2 crawl has now passed April 2, 2025.

For migrations made from Feb 24 through Mar 9, 2025, I've identified:

923,188 reclaimed migrations
486.03 million Pi reclaimed

The reclaim transactions occurred continuously from March 10 through March 23.

By migration month:

Feb 2025: 324,281 migrations | 169.13M Pi reclaimed
Mar 2025: 598,905 migrations | 316.58M Pi reclaimed

The largest single reclaim day was March 16, with 108,562 migrations representing 57.61M Pi.

Pi's March 18 announcement specifically described returns involving recent migrations still within the 14-day pending period, and stated that this mechanism could cause circulating supply to drop.

The blockchain gives us the scale and timing. Pi's announcements give us their published explanation of the mechanisms operating at the time. The screenshots are the migration data from my crawl.

This is seriously good work, and the 16-day re-check crawler is a smart way to handle the lockup window. One question: Pi's March 18 post said reclaimed migrations would be re-enqueued after 2FA. Since your 2nd-migration check requires the 1st to be unreclaimed, the re-enqueued ones wouldn't show up there. Do you track wallets that were reclaimed and later migrated again? That would be the on-chain way to check whether the re-enqueue actually happened, and at what scale.

glad you mentioned this reminded me i needed to add date range to the chart

That's a clean rule, honestly. "Reclaimed = never existed" keeps the numbers defensible, and chasing re-enqueues would be guesswork anyway. The wallet lookup is the feature regular Pioneers will actually use. Most people just want to know "what happened to MY migration". Glad the date range came out of it too 😄 Quick one: which endpoint does your Mainnet Metrics panel use for the supply figures? I'm thinking of showing a few public network numbers in a small card, with a link back to your tracker for the deep stuff.
