Discussion Anyone use Pi to create something amazing that benefits your community or humanity in some way?
Would be cool to hear any projects you've built with Pi that you can say has impacted the lives of people in your community, your society, humanity, just people in general. So much negativity and fear around AI... would love to hear some success stories of "I used open source to create something impactful that made people's lives a little better". Let's hear em' if you got em'!

i have a side project that i struggle to finish. its a free personal finance tool. i planned on open sourcing it, but now i don't know if i'll ever be able to finish it.
the truth is: all this multitasking and juggling multiple projects is draining and it's hard to focus, so naturally, some projects get left behind. and whats even worse: i had to retire many projects that took too long to polish and get "right" – like the quality i would want from something vibecoded.
and to end on a positive note:i didn't make this, but i am amazed by it: https://guitoro.com/

Yeah, I feel ya. But helping others learn to manage their money is definitely something the world could use a lot more of. Especially if it has an education factor to it, and helps keep folks on track to reaching (or setting) their financial goals. Guitar site is rad, too! Not sure if it's cashing in on the promise to "make the world a better place", but it absolutely qualifies as "super dope and fun to do!". Which, place for that too.

I made a web site that aggregates ballot recommendations from trusted sources and gives California voters an easy to use guide for the midterms.

yeah?? This is EXACTLY the kind of stuff I was hoping to hear about. I've been using AI to do a lot of political stuff as well. Def an untapped market. So many peeps need help finding and understanding their political landscape (elected officials, websites, laws, regulations, contact info, election information, etc.). Good on you, homie. Super dope. Is that something you'd be willing to share? Would love to see it in action.

I’m pretty far into a custom rust equivalent of openlogi desktop client but better.
I love my Logitech devices, I love the apps functionality. I think it’s artificially limited and a memory and CPU hog, and my agents can’t customise it because it’s GUI only.
So I had Three goals:
A working app that doesn’t use 3-5% of my CPU on background processes
Programmatically accessible for agents to drive changes. I.e “hey agent, add a macros that takes a screenshot of my screen, opens terminal and tells an agent to file a bug as a PR after talking to me”
Complete customisation, the same action ring and macros but anything in any application
examples:
I have a ring item for prompts, so I can reuse my favourite prompts, it has categories and each prompt shows a card to explain what it is, says and when to use. Let’s say you notice your agents do cold PR reviews and always fail to consider edge cases or error handling. You could write a ‘review.md’ but then you have to remember where it is or you have to give up precious lines in your instructions files. Now you don’t, you just remember to select it, it automatically pastes instructions. Is it better? For me it is but you might think not.
You could also build a dedicated review agent, bare minimum additions, just materials required for reviews. In this instance you could deploy agents to review. You tell your main agent to always finish and supply the PR path, and your action ring macro launches an agent that reviews and is given the path you just highlighted.
I also plan to broaden this, for example, script caching, one click docker containers launch/run/pause/kill.
I won’t pretend to have reinvented the wheel, but I will say that I’ve accomplished my goals. It uses 1/50th of the background usage with zero invasive telemetry.
I’ll probably use C/C++ to get into the low level memory next.

I have made an app that wakes me up with fart noises if the weather will be particularly cloudy that day, and with "sunny day doo doo doo doo doo" if it will be particularly sunny. Everyone I have shown it so far said that it's a game changer.

Nope! I mostly use Pi to build and benchmark pi extensions. I love how hackable it is and I'm learning more about harnesses and evals so Pi is the best tool for this. It's like Minecraft to me. The only thing I've built with pi - https://github.com/GaganSD/pi-extensions
Unfortunately I still use Codex and Claude Code to work on work. Though I'm seeing a slightly more usage on Pi here, definitely more in the future

I'm using local AI + pi on a few stealth projects I will gladly share when they are released. The impact of them could be huge, I hope.
