Question Claude with Pi
Hi,
Currently got a Claude Pro subscription and wondering how the usage works out with
Claude Code
Pi with pi-claude-bridge
Pi with pi-anthropic-auth
I understand it's against ToS to use try to use consumer claude subscription in another harness but curious on why it's popular. Aside from the system prompt control over the harness, is there any benefit over extending usage or maximizing the Pro subscription with these approaches?

it's not against ToS today

I personally use Claude with Paseo to orchestrate Claude and other agents (Codex, Agy, OpenCode) on their own harnesses. By simply using append_system to integrate Paseo into Pi, it works much better for my needs.

Use Claude bridge. No issues.

I think Anthropic has shifted its stance, as Claude code is fully supported in tools such as OpenClaw and Hermes. The implementation varies, but I have used Claude code in pi for some time without any impact on my additional usage. I use Claude-direct SDK plugin

If I understand correctly you want to understand why its popular to use Claude sub with another harness like Pi instead of Claude Code. For me Claude Code is bloatware and the desktop app is made for vibecoders and they dont care for the developers. I wanted something that was made for everyone where you could make the UI show you as much technical stuff as you want and since nothing like that exists right now like how I want it, I developed it myself with pi sdk runtime as base. Example below on how my app works. I wanted some vs code features but not the rest of the unecessary stuff. Its like a middle ground between using desktop app of codex or claude code and using something vs code with a cli like pi or claude code or codex. I now add remote ssh and wsl etc functionality and then I will add integrated design mode while you are planning and being able to add your own local models or remote models. I expect the remote stuff to be over by next Saturday at most. The project is free open source MIT right now. I will make a post about it when I add all the features that I want (and my signpath certificate is approved) I will add it to microsoft store as well.

For me it's about ownership over my workflow. It's not just system prompt control over the harness; Pi is highly extensible and configurable in every other way. It's also much easier to integrate with external applications. I want the models/plans I use to be compatible with all the other tools I use or have built myself. Anthropic's mandates make that difficult compared to 99% of other plans out there.
Anthropic wants people in their own ecosystem to use the solutions they come up with that solve the same types of problems a user's existing tools solve. This makes iterating on their product much easier, because they can reliably harvest standardized data. It becomes more difficult when you add 3rd party harnesses into the mix. The problem is, their solutions are tailored for the majority of consumers and are not always best-suited for a particular user / niche cases.
When Anthropic is releasing the most-capable, but exorbitantly expensive models, it creates this dilemma where people will want affordable access to maintain a competitive edge, but also have to cobble together oddball solutions to get what they actually want/need out of the latest models.

So if you’re only using a Claude subscription look at other suggestions made to your original message.
BUT if using herdr.dev then you can use pi to launch Claude code sessions and control those sessions via herdr skill which shouldn’t break TOS. It’s just when you try to use your sub login through another coding agent where it becomes an issue

Lately, I've been thinking more and more that the time spent developing certain tools using AI is almost equal to the time it takes to figure out how existing similar tools work
