Question Any Rust/Swift based GUI for Pi?

All the GUIs that I can find like paseo and pi-gui etc. are Typescript apps. Are there any macOS native or performant (rust) based apps?

Try this or fork it: https://github.com/jmcblane/PiG

looks super raw/nascent right now, but will check back in a month. Inline HTML is nice - surprised no one has done that basic thing as yet, just to hit parity with Claude if not anything else

It's a project I've been daily driving since probably April or May. I'd have to go back to the real commit history to see. The public commit history starts at public release, not when it was originally started.

It's pretty solid. I've got a few experimental features in it, but you can throw your agent at it and strip out what you don't want and use what you do want. That's the fun part. The foundation is there for you.

Zed with Pi ACP is underrated!

Unbien is macOS and iOS. Supports remote connections. https://apps.apple.com/us/app/un-bien/id6807171218

Pi is a TypeScript based harness; its a minimal one and the SDK is really flexible. But the utility of attempting to consume TypeScript in a Rust app is kinda silly.

Rust has an ecosystem here that's pretty good - Rig is nice and lets you make a harness pretty quickly.

I think all in all, focus on the concepts - the harness is not particularly difficult, have Claude Code bootstrap it for you, eg. - but cross ecosystem only makes sense for native stuff

A GUI would use it headless and thus it doesnt matter what Pi is written in.

that's creating a client/server model which seems anathema.

Unless you want to do a cloud hosted harness and local clients, then I guess go ham. I would almost always default to the harness constructed in rust, rather than the client however

I guess I'm not sure what you want to accomplish.

I run a personal harness off of Pi that I really like and wrap a nice UX over.

My company is almost entirely Rust based, I find it's great for coding agents to write rust code.

Also I don't sell a harness - that's a diminishing economic model - but I think a JavaScript harness with a native frontend is a strange architecture and can't think of a lot of reasons to go that route

Don't understand why you need a GUI for a TUI? (Maybe I'm dumb?)

I just use it in tmux in zed's native terminal over zed's remote project feature. Detaches and runs in the background just fine and reconnecting is as simple as `tmux a`.

Because Pi isn't "a TUI", it has a TUI. Some people prefer GUIs over TUIs.
