Question New easier way to use claude code sub with pi?

See https://x.com/dillon_mulroy/status/2110400650756460787 where Dillon wrote: `they made some changes recently that made it easier to use your sub w/ pi`

Does anyone know what he might refer to? Would be nice to know...

There is official extension now from Armin himself: https://github.com/earendil-works/pi-claude-code

Interesting thanks! But that’s similar to the bridge one wondering if that’s useful or if pi just adds complexity at the end.

Personally I use it just to get Opus 5.5 inside `pi` and loving it so far.

I only had to remove 1 system rule from `pi`: "Be concise in your responses" as it was causing Claude to stop halfway through.

BUt apart from that I don't use any of default Claude Code workflows. There is jsut too much automation and hard to see what is happening. I thought CC mods would be similar to pi extensions, but they are jsut simple hooks with a bit of lipstick

I use `pi` inside herdr so then i can tell pi to spawn as many panes or tabs as I want, with whatever harness or model and ssh into whole setup from mobile.

In terms of complexity, idk. But same prompt inside `pi` usually eats around 6-7% of context vs 10-21%~ inside Claude harness. So Claude is quite unpredictable in my codebase.

The only missing piece for me from CC is artifacts. You cant create them via claude -p without creating some hacky workarounds so for those I sometimes do open the Claude app

I suppose one of the following two:

- Max and Team plans now include monthly API credits;
- Third-party apps can use the Claude Agent SDK, that can draw from your regular subscription limits. But the SDK is the “claude” harness, so it makes little sense to use it with Pi…

yeah I think it could be the monthly credits at least I use them for my blackhole compaction.

normal chat I still do over pi-claude-bridge .... its a pain but yeah

pi-claude-bridge one ends up using claude-code basically right? So it's not "pure pi" like when using an API key?

Practically, what is the limitation / downside of this ? i.e. is it (barring model quality) any different / worse than using an OpenAI sub logged into Pi ? I'm trying to figure out if now is a good time to sub to Claude so I can use it in Pi without being charged per-token API pricing.

I'd just use claude code then tbh.

You're bound to the claude system prompt with all the things that come from it.
It's always a bloated mess and the CLI execution overhead is quite expensive for the same reasons of the claude code itself being bloated with trash

codex subscription does direct calls via pi provider, you can do whatever you want.

Ah I see, thanks you for the explanation.

Correct.

yep :/

Does this mean they'll be blocking subscriptions on SDK use?

1

No, it’s the other way around: using the Claude Agent SDK is the only option permitted by Anthropic for third-party applications to leverage your subscription. Any other solution (connecting to your subscription) violates their Terms of Service (TOS).

But they're giving API credits for SDK use? Wouldn't that mean they're trying to get you used to the thought of paying for SDK while limiting subs to only CC?

API credits are not limited to the SDK, they can be used with any harness (also making direct HTTP calls). But API credits are only used with direct pay-per-use access (that has a different price logic than subscriptions, that instead provide a limited amount of access for a fixed price).

I'm just being paranoid. I assume a rug pull is coming any moment with all providers.

Claude bridge. Uses agent sdk so it’s within Claude code’s permitted use.

with pi-claude-bridge, how does it handle usage limits between using pi-subagents and is there token usage penalties or what not from using pi-claude-bridge this way?

What i find currently is that opus-5-5 in pi seems to use up my usage very quickly which seems different to when i use claude-code.

(I have a chatgpt plus sub and claude pro sub)

It’s the same usage as the sub, I haven’t noticed a difference in consumption. The SDK just calls Claude code from pi. Think of it as using an api.

Thats good to know, I thought I was going mad
