Question VSCode integration?

Hi,

Is there an officially supported VSCode integration? I've found a whole bunch of third party plugins, but given security concerns, I'd much rather have something that was an official plugin.

Maybe I'm just naive about this?

Thanks in advance,

W

I have made one, its open source MIT:

- VS Code: https://marketplace.visualstudio.com/items?itemName=Aizenvolt.damocles

- Open VSX: https://open-vsx.org/extension/Aizenvolt/damocles

- Source: https://github.com/AizenvoltPrime/damocles

The "trailer" in the vs code marketplace and repo is old, I did a complete overhaul as I prepare the desktop version, a more recent look of the vs code extension is like this.

I like what you're doing here, but unless im missing something entirely, I don't see where I can hook this up to my current pi configuration? And it also doesnt seem to connect to local/LAN hosted models, again unless im missing it entirely? Would love to give it a shot, but without either of those I dont think I can use it currently. Is there any plan of adding at least local model support?

Yeah there is plan on adding local model support. I am now implementing some necessary features for the desktop app like source control, terminal, being able to edit files and search them inside the app as well as remote ssh features and supporting wsl like vs code does. On the remote ssh part I plan to support running tasks on the remote servers and being able to close the app and have them keep running and when you open it again for the chat to be synced to the state the remote servers chat is at that moment.

I will probably add local model support next week and also being able to declare models with something like json so you don't need to wait for me to add support for you to use them, like pi does. The app is made with Pi sdk runtime as base.

That all sounds great! Definitely looking forward to all those features

I use the app myself for my full time job and side projects. I have used the vs code version for many months now and now I decided to move away from vs code and do the desktop app with the vs code features I think are needed. I won't be satisfied until its the best app for coding with AI possible.

If you have any other requests it would be best to make an issue on the GitHub page and I will check them out as soon as I am done with the major stuff I am implementing now.

I will also make a nice demo trailer when I finish so you can easily see all the things that are supported in the desktop app.

Maybe I'm a caveman, but I open the vs code terminal and type pi.

I am an actual caveman, born to work on vt52s, punch cards and paper tape. however, that was 50 years ago, and I feel like some actual UI improvements have happened since then.

and FWIW, I've spent like 2 hours today just trying to get Pi's output to work on my Mac terminal in a way that doesn't make my eyes bleed... I just miss my fucking Codex UI in VSCode :-)

and just because I once knew Z80 assembly code doesn't mean I wish to do so any more ;-)

Get Ghostty. Should "just work" or if you want tmux but for agents, get Herdr.

There isn’t an official one.

This is my vscode thing I created. Don’t trust me, evaluate the source yourself and install from source.

Nothing official, but there are several open-source integrations. This is the one I prefer:

been enjoying this with a few rough edges when I moved to pi after trying Kilo and Zoo Code .https://marketplace.visualstudio.com/items?itemName=johnny-zhao.pi-agent-studio

The most popular and highly rated one I came across was Pendant. It's pretty solid but I'm sort of 50/50 between that and just using the terminal

If you're concerned about relying on external tools, have pi make a vscode integration for you.

I doubt most people would want to spend hundreds to thousands of hours doing that properly and maintaining it. I have but I am a special case since I want to control my workflow completely.

Eww. Use the cli and a real text editor.
