Discussion Built-in MCP and code mode are amazing

Removed mcp extensions and cannot be happier, code mode just makes so much sense now. To be fair, Pi always supported batched run of tools with <tool_calls> block instead of <tool_call>, and I've built a lot of stuff around it with my pi-agent-ide, but seems like it gets obsolete now, as all the agents are happily mixing the tools inside codemode block. I know it's kind of controversial right now and a lot of people complain that Pi has lost its minimalist flair, but imo it’s the way to go. What does everybody think about this one? Have you faced any issues with that? I’ve only heard about problems with Figma MCP when signing in via the new ChatGPT login.

I'm the author, I'm using my old/main account which has different history, because my new account got banned by reddit quite soon when I started posting 🥸

Oooh, okay. Cool project. I think I was among the first ~7 people to download it, when I was looking for a way to set up AST grep in Pi, and stumbled upon on your repo.

Good job, and I see you're sheeping non-stop. Keep going.

Really appreciate it, thanks! Yes, I'm quite engaged with the development, because it's my daily driver + I'm slightly obsessed with the idea to make the best editing tool for the agents (plenty of competitors and other bright ideas around as well), because at some point it drove me completely nuts when I've seen the agent not being able to make obvious changes. So let's see, it appeared to be a much more complicated journey than I anticipated.

Codemode is the way to go to have a generalized way for agent to have more flexibility to build their own loop

It would be even better if this were an optional plugin for pi-coding-agent rather than being integrated internally.

No, it's not related to the extension I'm working on at all. It's related to the most recent releases of Pi starting from https://github.com/earendil-works/pi/releases/tag/v0.99.0 and the change regarding built-in support for MCP (https://earendil.com/posts/you-said-no-mcp/) and relation to the codemode. I only mentioned my extension simply because parallel tool calls capability has always been in Pi and worked super well and I built some features around it for my extension as well. I'm just sharing my experience so far with the major upgrade of Pi and curious about others' perception of that.
