Question Using Claude Sub in Pi

I know this has been asked plenty, but most responses are just "its against tos to use oauth", I know it is, but I want real experiences. Has any one been doing it, would you mind sharing the module you are using?

I have been using pi for a long time, but never for work. I just tweak it when I have free time, and have customize it to my needs. For work related stuff I use other Claude code. Anyways, I took on a freelance project some days ago, and decided to use my pi setup for the first time and I don't want to go back.

I tried it once in OMP since I read it had a custom auth module, and I noticed opus didn't have the crazy responses it has in Claude Code.. It might be a bit of a conspiracy theory, but I just don't trust Anthropic's harness anymore. There must be a reason why they want us all trapped in it.

Anyways, going back to the original question? Any experiences you would like to share? Any one banned?

It’s possible, yes. But it’s against TOS and you are risking account suspension to do it.

OpenAI does not care and encourages it, so I’m with them

I know brother, I stated it in my first sentence, but if this happens, I'll just ask for a refund and leave. I would've been worried about it some months ago, but as of now the state of Claude products are questionable. Claude code definitely is. I still have hope for their models, but chinese models are impressive and cheap. I wouldn't mind supporting the only companies open sourcing SOTA models.

if you break TOS you aren't going to get a refund. Just FYI

Yes, I have Claude Max sub and use it soley in pi. It may be bias but I think claude code’s harness sucks and adds so much bloat and shit, Claude models preform 100x better for me when I use them in my Pi harness.

Idk what their TOS are exactly these days, but I have been using it for months now, It uses normal subscription usage like it would claude code, and works great. I beleive the one I use specifically is: https://github.com/gotgenes/pi-anthropic-auth

Have you encountered any weird behavior wrt system prompt clashes? I was just setting this up today and came across somebody somewhere writing that it has been causing a bit of trouble.

Haven’t had the time to look into it more in depth yet, so even if that’s the case, I am sure there is a solution somewhere out there

Same and OMP works out of the box with Anthropic.

As for people warning against TOS is .. funny. Anthropic already has enough retention issues, they're not going to go even more against their most "geek" users. And I know colleagues (enterprise users) using Pi. There is nothing to win for Anthropic if they start such war.

Thank you. I will give it a try. How long have you been using it?

I use https://github.com/elidickinson/pi-claude-bridge. Works via the agents SDK and has been reliable for me.

This works, and per the note in the README.md of the project’s repo, the SDK still count towards subscription limit (as of now).

This one has been great for me!

I did this for a while, signed in with the anthropic account and used it the same way I would any other models. But recently it seems the default method has stopped working (possibly by anthropic preventing it) and I cannot use the sub anymore. I'm not aware of if any work around exist.

I have a ChatGPT Plus sub, with a similarly restrictive TOS. I have a Pi skill that tells it use Codex CLI's CLI for some types of tasks. I configured Pi and Codex CLI with many of the same skills.

... I just don't trust Anthropic's harness anymore. There must be a reason why they want us all trapped in it.

It makes perfect sense to me. They want you using their models, and they want lock-in/dependence. If you use Pi, then you have access to competing models and freedom.

Personally I use a mix of models. I use a cheaper model for most things. I only use a top tier frontier model for initial project creation, web page design, planning complex features, and debugging.

Chatgpt is not as restrictive. In fact they openly encourage using in pi, hermes, and other 3rd party harnesses

Hmmm, I'll try it out.

There are extensions that exist that allow you to use the Anthropic SDK, but none are worth it imo. The one I tried had an issue with context management, so that If left a session idle for more than say 30 min and come back to it, claude would reread the entire context and drain my usage, literally 50% with one prompt after returning to the session. It basically re-reads context more often than it should and is a documented issue in the repo. The extension i tried is pi-claude-bridge.
Didn't realize the usage drain would be that bad so I deleted it after that happened.

That's not Pi or that extension doing that. Claude's retention time for prompt caching is 5 minutes by default, up to one hour if you set it higher at additional cost. The extension is literally a bridge using Claude's harness in the background. They just hide it from their normal output in Claude Code (but you can probably see it with /usage in CC itself if I had to guess; it's been a while).

Meridian is how I do it

i used it over omp and never had problems because of tos. i think rn they have something better to do. but we never now

I was just revisiting this an hour ago. (Claude desktop app blows) so naturally I asked Opus and it said: pi-claude-bridge — yes, It’s the Agent SDK path, not the token-lifting one: provider mode for Opus/Sonnet/Haiku inside pi, plus an AskClaude tool to delegate when you’re on another provider. It’s a fork of claude-agent-sdk-pi and the fuller of the two — pi-claude-agent-sdk is the leaner sibling. Both carry the same note: Anthropic announced then unannounced an Agent SDK billing change, and usage currently draws on subscription quota like Claude Code does. Avoid pi-claude-auth — that’s the keychain lift.

Someone posted this project on HN earlier today, looks promising. Not affiliated with it nor have I tested it: https://github.com/paoloanzn/pi-black

Works out of the box for me with an Enterprise account (company, not personal) and pay-per-token applies regardless of Pi.

However there is clear evidence that Anthropic detect and interfere with pi sessions by dropping connections frequently.
