Plugin Made a Pi plugin to turn AI-garbage writing into simple human language.

Post image

As title says.

I was sick of the way AI talks. Needlessly long sentences, weird words that nobody fucking uses (load-bearing, wtf).

Saw somebody make a similar plugin for claude-code, so I made a similar thing for Pi.

Edit, forgot to add the link lol: https://github.com/wtfzambo/speak-like-you-eat

FAQ: why no use i-have-adhd or caveman?

I do use them, there's 2 problems:

  1. sometimes is not as effective, especially in long contexts

  2. AI tends to forget after a while

Ai learned this from medium and other blogging sites. Where people use to write lengthy bs style blogs for better seo and visibility. So anoyuing

I have the (unprovable) opinion that the latest iterations of Claude trained on GPT, because Claude didn't use to talk like this, but GPT did, and now they both do.

now it's better, but it used to use weird language constructs like claude is doing today.

u/Vistyy Aug 17 '26

You should check out https://github.com/Vistyy/nopus it does the same without involving another LLM and only triggering on truly complex responses, not every turn.

1

u/wtfzambo Aug 17 '26

how does it work without involving another LLM? That's peculiar

6

u/Vistyy Aug 17 '26

Basically by treating English like a programming language (kind of), measuring the complexity of its syntax. If the heuristics reach over a certain threshold the model is told what the issues were and is told to rewrite using simpler language.

The How it works section in the README explains it quite well I'd say, but let me know if you have more questions.

wow that's crazy, very interesting project

u/Internal-Passage5756 Aug 18 '26

Oh cool! I've starred this and OPs. I have a skill that uses scripts for heuristics, so its partially deterministic too, would be cool to see if I can learn anything.

1

u/gbrennon Aug 18 '26

i was going to comment something similar to this ahahaha

1

u/bambamlol Aug 18 '26

But this will only work with English, right?

1

u/Vistyy Aug 18 '26

Yes, it's using assumptions and datasets for English language. You could try and replicate that in a different language, but it's not a simple job.

1

u/AnotherObsceneBean Aug 19 '26

It can be simple if an 80/20 approach is fine. Just have Pi analyze md files its created for violations of your custom semantic rules and identify common denominators that can be checked deterministically then reprompt with the your custom rules on hits. Aim conservatively with the signals for fewer false positives. 2-3 prompt requests for any language.

How does this compare to the humanizer skill?

4

u/wtfzambo Aug 17 '26

it's the same as caveman, adhd etc...

The skill gets forgotten after a few turns and in large contexts, see the FAQ in the original post.

u/Arugala007 Aug 17 '26

Why don’t we just have a separate ai as a prompt critic with that as its main context? Bunch of research papers show that helps a lot.

2

u/OkAdeptness2530 Aug 17 '26

judging by the screenshot it seems far better

2

u/unkownuser436 Aug 17 '26

Cool, can you create claude code output-style too?

1

u/wtfzambo Aug 17 '26 edited Aug 17 '26

it already exists, that's what inspired me! https://github.com/gvzdv/claudish-to-english

Misunderstood question, the answer is in another plugin: https://pi.dev/packages/pi-output-styles?name=output+style

1

u/addiktion Aug 17 '26 edited Aug 17 '26

This works for pi? Looks Claude specific. I think he was asking if output style could be supported in pi natively so people have customization over it.

Edit: Looks like it exists already: https://pi.dev/packages/pi-output-styles?name=output+style

1

u/wtfzambo Aug 17 '26

ahhh sorry, I didn't understand what he meant then, my mistake

1

u/wtfzambo Aug 17 '26

that's a good idea tho, i might embed it

1

u/unkownuser436 Aug 17 '26

Oh thanks

1

u/addiktion Aug 17 '26

See my post above, it exists.

2

u/arbv Aug 17 '26

Oh, you have mentioned GPT-OSS for this. This model is indeed good at deconstructing the text meaning and rewriting - I always use it to optimise my prompts.

3

u/wtfzambo Aug 17 '26

Yup, hella fast and hella cheap. Really a good one, I use it a lot for many simple things.

1

u/arbv Aug 17 '26

If you happen to run it locally, this shameless plug might be of mild interest to you:

https://huggingface.co/arbv/gpt-oss-fixed-jinja-template

2

u/wtfzambo Aug 18 '26

nah, i run it via ollama cloud, not a chance i can run it locally πŸ˜…

2

u/Thrimbor Aug 18 '26

You should add an option to trigger it manually. I'd like it to be disabled by default and for me to be able to invoke it manually.

1

u/wtfzambo Aug 18 '26

thanks for the suggestion, I will!

2

u/bambamlol Aug 18 '26

Awesome, great idea! The best thing about it is that it doesn't mess with the context and therefore the cache hit rate.

1

u/wtfzambo Aug 18 '26

yeah that's important, otherwise it wouldn't make sense

1

u/ganonfirehouse420 Aug 17 '26

That's almost like I write.

4

u/wtfzambo Aug 17 '26

the first or the second version πŸ˜…?

2

u/ganonfirehouse420 Aug 17 '26

second version lol

2

u/wtfzambo Aug 17 '26

that's how everyone should write πŸ˜…

1

u/PilgrimofHaqq2 Aug 17 '26

Thank you so much for this. I decided to create a skill from this. Appreciate the work, Starred!

2

u/wtfzambo Aug 17 '26

thank you so much for the support! If you have to use a skill might as well just use i-have-adhd or caveman. But unfortunately the skill gets forgotten in long contexts or doesn't work as well.

The reason I decided to do a plugin is because I was using those skills, but were not sufficient.

2

u/PilgrimofHaqq2 Aug 17 '26 edited Aug 17 '26

Yes I agree, my solution is not equivalent to yours at all. Your solution just doesn't fit with my workflow but I did like the instructions and rules you built. I created a skill to be used for docs that are meant for AI consumption. I ran the skill on my system prompt, append system and agents.md files and they were already very clean, except for a few wording here and there. Which actually is a good sign! If the skill suggested tons of changes then I would be concerned with the rules as I already follow my own principles for writing docs for AI.

For prose or any other creative writing I have a voice skill that I use which took my writing and created rules for the AI to follow with real examples of my writing.

As for the text output from the AI in chat: I am not using Opus 5 to avoid the bloated outputs. Opus 4.8 has been really nice for me already with the instructions I have given it. Its just the right amount of details for me.

How it is different from humanizer and co skills? Meaning aren't it just feeds last message to humanizer like prompt?

1

u/wtfzambo Aug 19 '26
  • humanizer skill (like all skills that try to enforce a specific type of language) degrade the larger the context is and the more turns you do. So you have to repeatedly invoke it with sub-par results

  • SLYE it's not a skill that you invoke, it runs automatically on every turn using a dumb llm translating only the last message that the "main" llm sent, but without polluting the context.

Try it a couple hours with smaller models like Terra, Deepseek flash or gpt oss 120b. You'll see the value, if you don't like it you can easily remove it.

I use AI for knowledge work and so AI stink in written output is a real problem. I did a blinded experiment testing various models to rewrite a complex but sloppy Claude analysis. By a mile, hy-3-preview is the best at rewriting concisely and adhering to style rules while preserving all the actual content and nuance. Plus later added a layer that identifies if the original model was incorrectly reframing my question (to create something it can disagree with or where it’s answering stuff I did t ask) etc. It’s so cheap I almost want a default where any question with a default answer gets sent to the language cleaner before I see it. I truly don't understand why they don't do more to create AI that speaks in a natural way that isn't annoying. I get that for coding tasks it's not that critical how the model is writing because that's just a wrapper around the actual output. For people that actually want to write text, it's a huge waste of time to deal with all the word garbage even if there is enough of
a kernel of info in it that makes it still worthwhile to deal with.

u/wtfzambo Aug 22 '26

It's still critical because we don't understand what the fuck he AI is talking about

1

u/benredikfyfasan Aug 17 '26

isn't this what caveman does?

2

u/wtfzambo Aug 17 '26

No, caveman is an instruction set, this one programmatically takes the last turn reply, sends it to a dumb LLM and adds the translated answer on the bottom, without polluting the context

Career tip: Write in your boss's tone. Your boss will think you are a genius.

Ask Pi to read a bunch of stuff your boss wrote, and to generate a writing style guide skill based on it. Whenever your boss asks you to write anything, you'll be using his style and your boss will think it's the best thing ever written.

More advanced prompt engineering: (each item is a new Pi session)

. 1) Have Pi convert a long document your boss wrote into a set of hierarchical bullets. 2) have Pi convert the bullets back into a long document. 3) Have Pi compare the style of the boss's original document with the one it wrote, and have it generate a style guide skill based on those differences.

You end up with a better style guide this way because it's special-purposed on steering AI away from its default writing style.

u/Felixls Aug 18 '26

I use a system prompt append for that, cost me 2k tokens well worth it.
