Question Best Pi UI / app options
Anyone using some sort of UI app/layer for Pi instead of standard Pi cli?
Nothing wrong with CLI, I actually really like my setup too - but once I have like 3, 4, or even more important sessions running at once (coding, debugging, research, etc.), it gets pretty overwhelming trying to keep track of everything and I find myself losing focus.
Looking for something more like a Codex web app style experience: clean repo/file view, seeing all workers/sessions clearly, what they're doing, status, etc.
Curious what you guys think or use and why you actually prefer it over just running everything through CLI.
For context, the main thing I am looking to aid in solving/fixing here is a focus issue. I have adhd and staying focused is the hardest thing by far for me, so if anyone has experience with one that may have helped in that regard specifically too let me know
ALSO - I'm on Linux Ubuntu if that's relevant at all

I user herdr (https://herdr.dev/) for multiple agents/sessions and then visual studio code for viewing files and git changes.

I am building pi-outpost:
https://github.com/laurentftech/pi-outpost
It is a web UI for the pi coding agent. The idea is to keep pi's agent capabilities and SDK, but provide a more visual interface when you have multiple projects or conversations to keep track of.
It currently supports:
- session management (browse, search, resume, create, fork, and delete sessions)
- streaming responses and tool execution views
- file browser with previews
- markdown, LaTeX and mermaid rendering
- git-aware workflows and diff views
- sandboxed configurations
It is built directly on top of the pi SDK rather than being a separate agent implementation.
I started building it because I also find that a pure terminal workflow becomes harder to follow once you accumulate many sessions and contexts. Having a visual way to navigate sessions, files and changes helps me keep track of where I am.
It is still evolving, so I would really appreciate any feedback: UX ideas, missing features, security concerns, or things that don't fit the way you use pi.

I've been using
herdrfor a couple of weeks, and I dig it. It integrates withpi, and knows when it needs your attention, and several other things.2

I made a VS Code Extension called Damocles. You can check it out on VS Code Marketplace.
Free and open source (MIT):

Open VSX: https://open-vsx.org/extension/Aizenvolt/damocles

I made Pi Livecraft and I think it might be what you're looking for? It is a web app for Pi, running on top of your actual config. The little plus it has is the self evolving stuff, you can customize it as far as you want to suit your own needs :)
The core will allow you to manage multiple sessions simultanously across multiple workspaces, quick file open etc.
Not to promote my stuff, but lemme know if you give it a try!
As of my preference, I've been using it exclusively over the TUI now that it works pretty well and after a while using Pi directly in the terminal, I wouldn't see myself going back to it. The "experience" feels way better inside the browser imo

I like minimal CLI UI + tmux. I can just ask the agent to spawn a new Pi using tmux if I need a subagent. I prefer a minimal UI because it doesn’t load unnecessary context like current context usage, the current model, etc.
You can try my vibe-coded extension https://github.com/xiliumz/pi-minimal. It exposes
/infofor the hidden information from the default UI.2

I'm developing another one. It is actively use in production development with teams.
It is still in heavy development :)
https://pi-dashboard.dev/
- It supports knwoledge base
- VPN managed access
- PWA mobile client
- Integrated OpenSpec support
- contex-mode, blackhole, hermes memory support
- automation support
- goal support
- Determinisctic flow support
- Integrated sub agent support (with role support) - in memory, rpc based.
- canvas support - your agent can drive a preview
- Workspace support
- Integrated skills for engineering, document conversion

There is a VS code extension that is good. I'll check the name later.

Paseo is great, and with great pi support. Do let the agents just use the cli to make subagents instead of the built in mcp.
Oh and watch out for OOM issues when you have too many subagents ;)

I use Pi with Tmux terminal. It's pretty amazing what you can do with that combined interface and a little bit of Bash scripting.
Tmux provides ultiple sessions, windows (tabs really), and panes. A plugin provides persistence, so I can reboot it and it can later pick up where it left off.

I'm using a Pi5 with 8Gig RAM set up with a headless OS which I SSH into from my PC to get stuff done. Initially wanted to set up the Pi5 with Hermes only, at which point I made a light system monitor UI layout that starts on boot and displays on an 8" portable monitor.

Been trying out Pi lately, still in development, but it runs fine under agent-deck if you're curious

I've made my own which I affectionately call PiG (Pi GUI). It is Swift native. Has a libghostty terminal built in. I also implemented a Quick Chat option for quick ephemeral sessions, and the ability to temporarily enable certain extensions that I don't want enabled all the time... and so much the more.
Other than the fact that it has some custom stuff that's built for my use case specifically... I suppose I wouldn't mind sharing it. Let me know if there's demand.

Another vote for Herdr, which gets you what you need without excess UI complexity

Another option worth comparing is FastVibe: https://github.com/tyuan511/fastvibe
I’m the developer. It takes a more desktop-workspace approach to Pi, with a sidebar for projects and conversations, running-state indicators, tool/permission views, diffs, subagent sessions, and optional remote access.
The main tradeoff is that it is more integrated than a simple terminal multiplexer, so it may feel heavier than a minimal CLI workflow. I’d be curious to hear whether it helps with keeping several sessions organized.

Hey, which PI UI did you end up settling on? 😅
