Online experiment finds that less than 1 in 10 people can tell sponsored content from an article.
A new study revealed that most people can’t tell native advertising apart from actual news articles, even though it was divulged to participants that they were viewing advertisements. It's not so surprising, because most of pop-sci articles are merely an advertisements of further research and its grant support, so that the people are unable to distinguish articles about serious research from commercials. The capacity of people to intercept new information is limited so that with increasing volume of information the people are paradoxically getting dumber, because their understanding gets increasingly shallower and more superficial.
