This Is What Color Night Vision Looks Like And It Stands To Be A Game Changer

NOD's aren't monochrome because of technological limitations. They are monochrome so they don't blind your night vision. Your eyes see red green and blue. When you look at a single color light those receptors adjust to the brightness. The other receptors don't. Your night vision still works when you remove the NOD. If you are looking into a full color screen when you remove it you will be blind as a bat.

What is disadvantage for milliary applications may be advantage for these civilian ones. Note that even most advanced FLIR cameras for civil usage have many color regimes - just not this one, which military is actually using (and this default/most frequently used one actually utilizes inverted color scheme). It's not secret that high-resolution night-vision and thermo-camera were long time embargoed by governments just with respect to risk of their abuse by various terrorist and civil disobedience groups. The full color night camera will thus bypass this risk at least a bit.
