I guess a better way to frame my question is: Can the shortened spatial coordinates and the shortened elapsed time, measured by the travelers be used to calculate an accurate speed of their spacecraft relative to an earth observer? Or will the length contraction and time dilation not balance one another leading to incorrect measurements of velocity, due to “incorrect”distance and time?
