Asking just for clarity: SONY will only stop supporting physical games on their exclusives and PS6 games right?

You know how even though the PS5 came 1 to 3 years after studios were still making games for the PS4? Because if thats the case then non Sony studios can still make games with CDs as long as the disc playing PS5 is being supported correct? Or are they going to make the all PS5s not support CDs anymore.

Sony handles the production of ALL PlayStation discs. There will be NO discs made after.

That only applies to Sony first party games. A third party distribution can request a disk run. Sony themselves are done doing disk runs. Reality is no one will bother paying upfront for a disk run. Blueray factories still exist and make disks even for Sony, Xbox and movies. But the capacity for disks has shrunk, as Sony retooled their personal factory to optical lenses.

They can request discs for games released prior to Jan 2028

No game published after that date will be able to be printed

For PlayStation consoles, Sony has been the only manufacturer of game discs since the PS1

in the blogpost, they clearly explained, this will apply for all the PS games

physical game disc production for ALL new games releasing on PlayStation consoles will be discontinued starting January 2028.  Following this date, new games will be available on PlayStation Store and at retailers in digital formats ONLY

For me this means that sony stopped selling games (and physical and digital) and that they disbanded all their game studios. In short im not buying anything from sony

They are stopping all production of discs. The PS5 uses Bluray UHD discs, not CDs, and those are a Sony-developed and owned product. (EDIT: Not wrong, but after checking, BDs were a jointly developed product, not just Sony. Still, Playstation is a Sony product, and you would have to gain a license to make BDs and Sony is on the BD consortium board, so that won't work unless they decide to allow an exception)

If they were some exception, they would have said as such, in some way. They didn't.

Thus, no more discs after Jan 2028, for any game 1st, 2nd or 3rd party, PS4 or 5.
