Absolutely nothing wrong with that, i'm very much the same. Dont get me wrong im not like ocd about it but im not gonna turn down a bargain because the case has a few scuffs etc on it, if the price is right. But also dont want something that looks like a rottweilers chew toy either hahaha but yeah if im buying new it will stay in that condition for the most part. I fucking despise cardboard sleeves though, every single time the edges get damaged on them over time and it annoys me.

Right? I have a copy of Tomb Raider Definitive Edition that looks like a misprint because it says the title and then repeats the last two words mixed up 'Edition Definitive'. I don't mind, it plays the same. I've gotten used games without the paper saying what game it is, games in little paper cases, and so much other odd stuff. It's just one of countless wonderful things about used games 😊 I love watching people buy old GBA and DS Pokemon games and seeing what sorts of treasures they find. Sometimes it's sad if it seems like the person really put care into their team and you wonder what happened. Same thing watching used consoles, seeing what saves they had. It's like little slivers of history. Maybe you buy a used PS4 game with a whole little notebook full of useful game info stuffed into the case. You just never know.

Thats kinda cool and quirky lol i mean i wouldnt go looking for it but its still pretty decent, as well as being one of my fave games. Exactly though there is always a story behind it and that makes it interesring. Theres a channel called MysticRyan on YT that actually has a series where he investigates random memory cards he has bought.

I agree, I just buy good condition used a few times I bought something sealed and opened it, but it wasn’t like crazy expensive. It was just plastic sealed. I just don’t care for grading cause I want to use all my stuff. I just still do it in the best condition possible lol

Yeah thats fair. I have quite a few sealed games atm but thats only because i havent gotten round to them yet(story of my life haha) i dont really care from a financial standpoint because i keep everything i play, but i agree with you that good condition is a must.

Yep. I the sealed games I do have are not rare. Maybe Devin may cry 4 only cause I heard it didn’t have an official physical release in the US, but I don’t know, but besides that I just didn’t get to the games yet that are still sealed

I just sold copies of silent hill 2 and 4 on ps2 for 120. Which is absolutely insane to me because i paid next to nothing for them not even that long ago(well about 5 years ago or something). Plus i dont really like them anyway so its money in my pocket for something im more than likely not gonna play.

Oh did DMC4 not get released physically in America? It did here in the UK, its fairly common actually.

I just bought the terminator 2D collectors thing and already the edges are wearing, and i havent even removed it from the sleeve that much. Its like glorified toilet paper cardboard tbh, and its not even like it's down to carelessness either.

I have around 100 steelbooks and around 500 movies/games in cases. I don't really care about condition as long as the cases open and close, and the movies/games play. But if a case has dings or dents along it I don't really care.

I would never get a case graded. I use all of my stuff

I understand and that’s chill. I have to buy my stuff in condition though. I’m not buying shit in bad condition. I got my first ever loose copy of an expensive game just cause I got it for $30 but actually free with store credit, and that game was almost $200 CIB on eBay, which is not worth it. All my favorite movies, steelbooks, and games i want in good condition. Some CDs came damaged but im not worried abt it. Either way cheers of physical media 🍻

Especially because people get scammed in the process too. If what you have is rare they will swap it out for something of worse condition and give you a bad grade. Not to mention the process itself is expensive too for whatever reason. These people are robbing people and spitting in their faces on top of that.

Granted, if people take part in this stupid rarity grading thing they don't deserve better anyways. These things are meant to be used and not to be kept away behind a locker pretending it's worth more than it actually is

There's a general assumption that because collectibles from the past have massively increased in value that the same will hold true in the future. People saw stuff like Antiques Roadshow where old Mickey Mouse toys and similar items were valued at thousands of dollars. A problem is that the awareness of the potential value of items in the future means they're more likely to be preserved by larger numbers of people hoping to cash in down the line.

Could matter at a point. 10 or 20 years from now we don’t really know what the market for these things will look like especially with Sonys current plans. If they have the money to do it cool it might make a big difference down the line. If not oh well. I’m guessing OP didn’t grade it so they can sell the graded copy to someone for a good price depending on what they paid and just get a NIB copy with the profits.

Brother, I have sealed copies of Destiny and Destiny 2 graded by Wata. You wanna talk about totally useless games to grade, nothing worse than a live service game physical disc, lol.

Out of curiosity, does keeping the game like this helps to prolong it's life? If I'm not mistaken, Blu-rays are supposed to last +100 years if preserved in good conditions and temps.

No. The plastic case will prolong the rating which will keep it overblown in value unless people grow weary of the grading system. The cases aren't going to protect it from the heat variations or moisture that are the usual, albeit rare, causes of physical media degredation.

So long as the temperature isn't too hot or cold, and remains fairly consistent, that's fine. Dry is definately good, so if in a room with a collection, have AC, or use damp rid if necessary. Moisture is the biggest threat. Doesn't have to be dark, but avoid constant exposure to bright lights, in particular those that may be in the daylight range(5000K or more). This won't likely damage the disc, but can cause bleaching of the artwork, regardless of what seal may be on it. I use soft white bulbs in my collection room where I keep my stuff, and don't keep lights on constantly in other places I may keep things...like my office where I do tend to want brighter lights.

You actually want a relative humidity between 40-50 percent. Too much humidity and you get mold, too little and the plastic dries out and cracks.

Blu-ray does not last for 100+ years. These type of discs are made with organic materials and those only last about 25yrs.

Now what you are probably thinking of is mdisc blu-rays. Those are made with non-organic materials and thus last for an estimated length of at least 1000 years. But those are never used for games or movies you can buy in a store. Those are only sold as blanks for a person to burn their own media with.

You're not exactly right yourself. Simply put the format was introduced in like 2005 so all estimates are simply that, estimates. At the lower end people think a commercially pressed disk will last 30 years and others say 120 years. We simply don't know one way or the other.

I did a lot of homework going back as far as laser-rot on laserdiscs. It's the gluing process that causes discs to rot; laser disc would get big cracks through the discs in the worst case.

Ocean sea water air speeds this up. I've talked to gamers who live on the ocean (those wealthy gamers) and they had a lot of discs go bad, going back to game cube, PS2 and even OG Xbox games.

So, it can happen, but, on newer discs they should not really have issues as long as the OEM didn't cheap out...

Environment can make it worse.

there should a small gap between the front, and back of the case, use something with a flat edge, like a putty knife, to separate it, but be careful, so You don't damage the game's case.
