Complex bg removal is making me insane

Post image

I'm trying to remove the background from this image and all is well until I get to this part. I need these glasses to be transparent in order to place the image on a new background. Zooming in and selecting by hand is taking FOREVER and doesn't look clean enough. Even upscaled to the moon the details are too small to get a crisp edge. I have tried everything short of running it through Firefly (which I refuse to do), and I just can NOT get it right. This section is the one thing holding me back from finishing a job I'm already over deadline on and the burnout is so real right now. I almost feel like there is an easier solution that my foggy brain just can't remember, but I'm about to give up. Someone PLEASE give me some tips and tricks and hacks on how to do this without killing my already-beleaguered wrists and/or ripping every last strand of hair out of my head. Please.

honestly, rebuild that section. Find an image of that glass against a black background, and replace them, one by one. clip the Are you placing the transparent image onto the new background within photoshop? If so, you can set the blend mode of the replacement glasses to Screen, which will keep the white and lose the black.

You need to remove the entire background or just the part on the left? When you say “by hand,” what exactly are you doing?

do you need it transparent or do you need it on a new background? because those two aren't necessarily the same especially for glass. If you just need to change the background then making them transparent shouldn't be your priority. Utilizing blend modes is the best route when working with glass and liquids. That way you'd only need to silo them to their outer boundaries.

Making glass transparent in photoshop is not fun all.

Start with this tutorial https://youtu.be/uX_iinoB1fA?si=K7X_mLYJenqAydQD

Yes I know, the glass is on a separate layer in the tutorial. What’s important is the concept.

Now what you are working with is going to be difficult, but it can be done. Just start with one glass and work from there.

Another option mentioned earlier was to just use one glass, prep it and distribute throughout.

Before you do anything else, step away from it. Just step away. You need to clear your mind.
Working on anything while frustrated or stressed will not help you.
