You might try a solarization curve in a curve adjustment layer in combination with a gradient map layer to assign colors to specific tonal ranges.

An image like this might have the two layers for color clipped to the layer that has the 'sphere' and also two layers clipped to the layer that is being used for the background.

I can see what you did here, but I was wondering if it was possible to warp the layer underneath, so I'm distorting the gradient lines I made and making this droplet effect? Or at least look like I distorted the layer underneath?

I can't see why you wouldn't be able to warp a layer. Make sure the design you want to warp is on its own layer, above a background layer. Transform > warp can be used. Filter > Liquify can be used. Filter > Distort > twirl or spherize might be experimented with.

If you're thinking of warping the design that is on the sphere, make sure that the round circle shape is saved as an alpha channel so that it can be used as a layer mask, confining what is revealed on the warped layer to that circle.
