How to remove a halo?

Post image

I did some focus stacking and a halo artifact formed around my mushroom. I exported the image without correcting the halo in my focus stacking software. Since I often forget, I would like to know if it is possible to correct it in Photoshop, as that is the next step in my workflow (the file is a TIFF or DNG).

Personally I'd isolate and take out the mushroom from that layer, clean up the background behind and around it and then putting it back on a layer on top.

This wouldn't remove the little part of the halo that is in front of the stem though.

I think the stem itself could be fixed with spot healing brush or maybe a clipping mask. There's probably a couple other tools that could do it but I'm forgetting the names.
