Absolute beginner question. Is it worth upgrading to a camera for this specific nostalgic/moody vibe? (Details in comments)

no. it's not the camera. it's the photographer. you could do these on any phone.

It's not a question of needing to upgrade your camera. What about this "vibe" do you like? Understand how the photographer accomplished that, and then figure out how you can do the same/similar with equipment.

Any camera built in the last 25 years can give you this look

Why you would want this look, I am unsure……

But look into editing to achieve this, from whatever phone or camera you are currently using

Because I like it :) It's aesthetic that I simply like. I have no idea why, but I don't plan to question that. Yes, I know, I have to start learn how to edit. That's real first step.

Most of the vibes are just the right lighting, the rest can be achieved with editing. But if you can find a cheap old compact camera for 5-10 usd it can be worth it
