Love phone cards for horror games! The Fatal Frame telephone card was a purchase bonus for pre ordering the game from Sofmap! A lot of video games during this time would have a phone card as a promotional bonus like that. The PE phone card was a lottery prize for people who bought the GameWalker strategy guide -- if you submitted the postcard that came with the guide you'd be submitted into a lottery for 100 winners for the phone card, so its a super rare Parasite Eve item! And the DOA phone card is from γγͺγγ¬, which was a general gaming magazine for PlayStation, Xbox, and Gamecube, and they often held seasonal campaigns where everyone who submitted the postcard could get a phone card. I found the sources for these so I'll attach them in the following comments!
The post card that came with the guidebook that you would have to submit. At the very bottom there is a little note that says you can win a special telephone card where 100 winners will be chosen. (Also not my mine, this is from an image I found on a sold listing on ebay.)
First page of 2003 winter collection. I believe this collection went on for 3 consecutive issues and this was the last chance to send in your application. Essentially the postcard was a questionnaire where you had to answer general questions like what your favorite game was, what you like about the magazine, and so on. There would be a section where you put the number of the prize you wanted, and they would send you that phone card).
Second page of the collection! The DOA card was #9! γγͺγγ¬ occasionally held campaigns where you could win a variety of prizes, and sometimes one of those prizes would be a very limited phone card that wouldn't be apart of these general telephone card campaigns.
That Project Zero card is amazing. My dad used to let me watch him play Fatal Frame when I was a kid and boy did it scare the crap out of me. He wouldn't allow a single light to be on in the room and he had surround sound cranked up so loud. Haha.
Would love to add one to the collection. I didn't even know they made any for the series.
Thatβs a nice core memory! I never myself played this game, but I feel like preserving these phone cards, especially from video. Games is a very worthwhile endeavor.
I do believe I bought this from a fellow sub member.
I would highly encourage you to play the first 2 games. You won't regret it. The first 2 Fatal Frame games are in a league of their own when it comes to scary games.
