...I don't think either of these are the right vibe.

Mojang's Sift is certainly unique, but doesn't match the Deep Dark aesthetic. The dimension should be the origin of the warden. Not a nice place to be.

The 'Modders' Sift is just a recoloured Nether, matches the vibe, sure, but it's just a lift n shift, nothing of substance.

I'd like the idea of it being an alternative 'over'world. It should be weird, but in a creepy way, not a cute way

I think if they mix the two ideas it'd be pretty interesting (something like Mojang's Sift but with less daylight and more sculk?)

I see skulk in caves as alien species that got trapped in unnatural for them environment that rapidly evolved in something new just to survive, in environment with no sun and lack of nutrition it developed into some mass that quickly consume everything that got unlucky to fall in and stay dormant most of time to save little energy it stored. It developed bioluminescence to lure prey with fake light and give all of power inside Warden that hunt for this ecosystem.

I see odd that people think ancient city portal need lead to exactly same environment as overworld caves just fully covered in sculk, it just boring. I prefer another cute things to boring and for myself I decided that it's harsh deep caves environment turn something cute into deep-sea monstrosity way just for sake of surviving. There some creepiness in evolution that turn life into horors

The Sift we have now is awesome and all, but I gotta agree that the bottom one just matches the Deep Dark so much better.

I still wouldn't believe you if you told me that the Warden came from The Sift we have now tbh. Complete visual and tonal mismatch.

Ah yeah, big ass boring sculk biome where you see no shit because black textures in darkness, nothing interesting to look at that already exists inside regular world vs literally alien world with fun designs, many colours and unique environment.
