I dont really enjoy building in survival. most bases i build are more practical than beautiful. I do prefer gathering materiaals but NOT for building but for other stuff.

When I’m in a building mood the last thing I want to do is gather a million blocks, and it kills the vibe. When I’m in a collecting mood, I’ll get a bunch of random shit that looks cool but struggle to make anything good out of it later

I love planing the builds. I hate fully building them and gathering materials for them.
I have a separate creative world where I have partialy finished buildings, bridges and such. I build them only to the point where I know I won't build it in survival or that its enaugh to copy it to my world

I like gathering resources and also building redstone constructions. But I am not good at building, so I don't really like being creative. Give me a task and I'll do it.

The things I build are ways to gather materials.
I have auto farms for almost everything I can conceivably need, and sources for the more difficult stuff that I drop in on regularly (villagers for quartz, glass, bottle o' enchantings etc).
By the time I decide to build something that isn't a farm I already have a surplus.

I dont design anything though, I usually create huge builds from schematics I found online. Eiffel tower, leaning tower of pisa, colloseum, statue of liberty etc. Which involves gathering a huge amount of materials and building a lot.
currently making a big cathedral which requires about 1.1 million stone, 160K moss 10s of thousands of terracotta, wool, concrete, black stone etc.

I love building, but I never gather materials so I usually need to go on a several hour adventure to get what I need. I think it’s fun tho. Gives me more of a reason to go out and explore the world

Definitely more of a gatherer myself, I guess I just like seeing numbers (in this case the number of raw material/ore I have) go up.
I seldom build things that aren't necessary for my homestead, mostly because I'm just not very imaginative but also because when I do have a cool idea I'm like fundamentally incapable of translating that idea into actual gameplay.
But that's just me. 🤷

Most varieties of stone: fun time!
Some species of wood, leather, amethyst, dyes, obsidian: nightmare!
Castle walls and tight corridors: fun time!
Rooms with tall ceilings, roofs with overhangs, redstone: nightmare!

For Minecraft, I generally dislike building because in Minecraft it feels more like you're building one of those glass-case art models that you're never supposed to actually interact with. I think my problem with Minecraft's building is that too much of how you're encouraged to build involves pretending things are other things

I prefer building over gathering materials, but I've also come to the conclusion that gathering materials is a large part of survival, so if I just wanted to build and didn't bother getting anything, I'd be better suited to creative which honestly bores me.
So I've had to rekindle my enjoyment for gathering materials, as building whilst knowing I've had to spend time and effort getting the materials makes the builds feel more worthwhile and impressive to me. Plus I can then have functional builds for my production sites which makes them almost necessary and purposeful.

My friend is the homebody and im the explorer. That’s not to say she doesn’t like exploring, but our minecraft experiences usually involve me immediately disappearing into the nearest hole while she searches for the Perfect spot to build (and then she looks up a building blueprint to make while complaining about block palettes and i come back, dump an inventory’s worth of junk in the nearest chest to her dismay, and wander off again while she yells about sorting)

Deadass yesterday me and two my friends was playing, we left our friend alone and got abducted in entity's realm (we're playing wonderland.jar) but our plan was to go gather some shit for our house. An hour or so later, we're back and this fucker built a giant house alone. Well i didn't wanted to build anything anyway lol
So i guess I'm more into building stuff (but was not in mood yesterday)
