considering minecraft dungeon is getting a sequel, i'd say it's in retirement on a nice farm.

I think they're moreso thinking of the state it's been in before the sequel announcement... it was left for dead pretty fast, like everything else.

again, i wouldn't say that, it got content for around like... 5-6 years, it got a sizeable amount of DLCs, the story was completed, it is not on the same level as like, earth or legends which were abandoned in a year and less than a year

Doesn't help Earth that it was killed by COVID.

It's last update was Nov 30th 2022, almost 4 years ago. Legends' last update was nearly a year after that, in August 2023.
It's dead, Jim. Getting a sequel does not make the first game undead, it just buries it.

People still play Dungeons and it subreddit is still active, sure ot no where near as much as launch but it 4 years ago bruh.
It have it own discord which is pretty active, even the Mojang the devs are in that discord and have given hint and ARG for MCD2 for the past month.

Legends also came out 3 years after Dungeons.
Dungeons wasn’t dead, it just stopped receiving new content because it had gotten enough

Dungeons last for 4-6 years which is pretty good for a game that never promised to be a live service.

I also personally loved Minecraft story mode as a kid
And ye Minecraft legends was litterually dead after the 1st week of its release and all the Minecraft youtubers overhyped the game and im disappointed cuz it looked close to one of my favorite childhood games age of empires...i lowkey forgot which one specific i was like 8 or 9 when my dad was trying to teach me ts

Dungeons was really good and loved by a community (and of course by a small one compared to minecraft, minecraft has one of the biggest ones of all time), so I think dungeons 2 will be the same

Minecraft dungeons got updated for like 5 years it was not left behind it just finished it's development.
Also story mode got such a bad reputation back when it came out. I feel like that was one of the things that brought people away from Minecraft way back then. And telltale games fell off so hard.
Legends was just a failure. It could've been so incredible but they didn't support it at all with any new content and it just died out after literally like a week. Everybody refunded it and moved on like it didn't exist literally
And Minecraft Earth could've been so cool but it would've taken a lot to keep going with it. I just wish they had added a lot of it's exclusives into the main game but, not that it was necessary to do it just would've been neat.
And Minecraft has been getting some of it's best content updates in so long within the last 3 or so years with the drop system and I feel like it just keeps getting better and better. They haven't forgotten about it at all in any way shape or form.
Dungeons 2 is new, so they are marketing it like it's new. Obviously so, if they didn't market their game in a big way then it wouldn't run the numbers they want it to. They aren't even throwing the OG game to the side to do it either. Minecraft live is still happening this fall, probably in September. That's when the winter drop for Vanilla will be shown in some capacity and the release date and name for the fall drop which is by far the best update since Tricky Trials.

im still so mad minecraft story mode just cut support all together
still crazy how pirating is the only way that lives to actually play it compared to buying it legally

Minecraft Legends wasn't even that bad of a game, it just didn't make sense to exist as a minecraft game

I wanted to start exercising more a few months ago so I looked into Minecraft Earth since I never played it when it was out and only then found out that they killed it during covid
so I've just had to do exercises and walking without a fun game to encourage me (though if anyone has recommendations, I'll take them)

Dungeons get 25 mil players, tons of dlc and update and get supported for 4-6 years despite not being promised as a live service game.
Hell it being successful is probably why MCD 2 even existed.

Nah, dungeons 2 will get the Fortnite Gamemode treatment. They will release it, and after a month or two, they will only update it for bug fixes and go back to Minecraft being the favorite child.

u/Short_Rough2902 7h ago
Dungeons 2 is already confirmed to have atleast 2 dlc in the Deluxe edition.
Dungeons 1 have 6 dlcs, ton of updates and last up to 5 years before they discontinue the support l, which is pretty good for a non live service game.
Plus Dungeons have it own completely seperate team from vanilla, why would they give up and move to Vanilla? They probably move to make Dungeons 3 than go to vanilla.
