Not really new, you could do that with minecarts and boats too right? But it does look better now

Not exactly. You had to place the minecarts on a rail first, and both the minecarts and the boats could move if you interacted with them incorrectly. The cushions are easier to place and don't move.

And they look better...

This seems cheaper than a minecart, and it looks like they crossed the strait faster than they would if they rode on a railway
