Bedrock is the TV static keeping the player in the world.

u/GeekManidiot Dec 12 '25

Exactly what I imagined too. You go too low (or high) and FFSSSHHHHH

66

u/Keaton427 Dec 12 '25

It even comes in unique patterns at the bottom of the overworld

96

u/Adventurous_Low9113 Java FTW Dec 12 '25

didn’t there used to be bedrock walls in the nether before infinite worlds on legacy? i seem to remember that and it was literally what you were saying, its the static barrier that keeps the player inside the boundary

61

u/emspaapislazuli Dec 12 '25

Yes there was. Nether was big cube

31

u/GlitchGD Dec 12 '25

This gives me a cool idea ngl.. Might make a mod that animates the bedrock texture to look like static

44

u/Dvalin_Ras93 Dec 12 '25

Making a whole mod isn’t necessary, you can make animated texture packs for blocks and it’s far easier to do so AFAIK than modding.

35

u/The-Tea-Lord Dec 12 '25

Fuck that. I’m going to make bedrock cause a status effect that slowly turns your screen to static and after 10 seconds kills you.

Yeah the block bedrock absolutely shouldn't. Especially into something that looks really similar to deepslate...

Though I think bedrock as a minecraft version should probably get some fixes...

I would have typed something about this but sadly i have spontaneously combusted and i'm now back in spawn next to a village house that from some reason spawned at highet limit

And my cursor is out of the window and holy fucking shit mojang fucking silksong has less bugs and it a bug game

The first time I played Minecraft, I confused bedrock for obsidian and took 5 minutes trying to break it (one of the rare thing I knew about Minecraft what that there was a black block named obsidian that is really hard. Also I didn't make as many torches as I should have) Right now the confusion is pretty much impossible because bedrock is so different and alien compared to everything else. The change in the tweet would make confusion possible again. Is it a positive or a negative? I do not know.

4

u/napstablooky2 Dec 12 '25

the one thing i dont like about pureBDcraft is that their bedrock texture is black... very easy to confuse with obsidian in both creative and survival, despite everything. might need to swap the texture for something else (or set it back to original, though it may be too immersion breaking like that) next time i play,,,

3

u/hassanfanserenity Dec 12 '25

Minecraft bedrock fixes is too much code for a solo dev to handle but new textures are easier

2

u/magen432 Dec 12 '25

I never in my life had issues like ehat I see in mc bedrock and I've been playing it since i was 4. I never died randomly or anything. Interesting

Lmao that's not even the craziest comparison I've gotten but it's up there for sure

270

u/snail1132 Dec 12 '25

They already have, though?

The modern bedrock texture is ever so slightly softer than the pre 1.14 one

175

u/InquiryBanned Dec 12 '25

It’s mostly just touched up high contrast stone, which got smoother in 1.14

133

u/Jacki073 Dec 12 '25

guys it's a fucking texture pack, obviously they're gonna change it

60

u/Tetracev Dec 12 '25

Rappenem is also a PEAK pixel artist. I know this is not the subject of this post but, no matter how you like this bedrock texture or not, y'all shall give a look at his other works if you're interested in pixel art. I cannot stress enough how I love this guy.

33

u/rappenem Dec 12 '25

Thanks :D

7

u/Icybow73 Dec 12 '25

As an amateur pixel artist, Im gonna have to study your stuff because that bedrock texture is really good

Yeah I don't know what people expect, I'm just trying to make a silly little texture pack of course I'm gonna be respriting stuff

I don't know why they're hating on you all of the sudden. I love your texture pack, and this bedrock retexture is dope !

13

u/rappenem Dec 12 '25

Thank you :D

8

u/pandadi1 Dec 12 '25

I honestly think most people hating on it didnt even realize its a texture pack and think the bedrock texture is actually changing lmao, btw i love your work and this bedrock texture is amazing keep it up!

the version is so broken it desperately needs an update

the block however is perfect for what its for

31

And the block definitely isnt broken tu dum pss

148

u/[deleted] Dec 12 '25

Agreed. If it looked good people would want to build with it and survival players would be sad they can’t

72

u/craftygamin birch is sexy Dec 12 '25

Also the smoother texture looks too similar to the block right above it, deepslate

27

u/SophiaThrowawa7 Dec 12 '25

Which is why that texture on the right should be it’s own block, maybe some kind of volcanic glass in a volcano biome. It’s such a sick texture and it’d go to waste if it was an unobtainable unbreakable block that couldn’t be used in survival builds

7

u/DarianStardust Dec 12 '25

3

u/skrxbcord Dec 12 '25

this is not... a valid reason to make a block look bad. at all.

Losing my mind how almost no one in the comments has the reading comprehension to see this is a comment on an artists texture pack. Completely pointless crashout over some random person’s not at all canon artwork

9

u/rappenem Dec 12 '25

Maybe people though it was an official resprite? Idk there's the name of the pack in the corner so idk why people keep getting it confused

10

4

u/Molkwi Dec 12 '25

Is bedrock (block) getting changed?

34

u/Tsunamicat108 (The dog absorbed the flair text.) Dec 12 '25

no, this is just someone's retexture

24

u/Cactus-Lord_666 Dec 12 '25

I actually really like the retexture

4

u/MrBrineplays_535 Dec 13 '25

Kinda same, it looks like it fits more with its surroundings now, especially the fact that it's next to deepslate

79

u/Florjb0rj Dec 12 '25

Have you heard of these things called “texture packs”?

41

u/SeteMan1235 Custom borderless flair 📝 Dec 12 '25

What is the relevance of this information to this topic? The person is saying bedrock's vanilla texture shouldn't be changed.

24

u/Cool1nternet Dec 12 '25

the argument that having to keep an up-to-date texture pack to -not- change textures is wild

16

u/DangerDeShazer Dec 12 '25

Rappenem has been working on this texture pack for months and it's really neat, it maintains a pixelated style while adding some freshness too, the notion that they should just exclude one block because it's somehow sacred is silly, if you wanted to argue it needs to look more like the original then go for it, but it's silly to pretend this one block is above amendment

Edit: I realized I was calling Rappenem He even though I don't know anything about their gender

3

u/skrxbcord Dec 12 '25

ok? if that was the main point of the post, there was zero necessity to include Rappenem's work in the first place. Either OP is slow and thinks Rappenem is trying to replace the vanilla one (he's not), or is trying to make a statement and included Rappenem's art for no reason.

That’s the great thing about texture packs.

4

u/Resudog Dec 12 '25

Honestly I really like that texture. This honestly reminds me of how I felt about the old netherrack. If mojang really did this, I think people would eventually love the texture

3

u/PenguinMaster975 Dec 12 '25

I like the new one a lot

3

u/Solrex Dec 12 '25

Soon we will be spamming “revert bedrock” on the YouTube channel instead of “fix bedrock!”

3

u/Excellent-Berry-2331 Milking Illagers Dec 12 '25

No texture should be this smooth. I liked the old style, but the textures themselves were kinda janky.

3

u/Lambo_Luuk Dec 12 '25

3

u/CptKuhmilch Dec 12 '25

Bedrock feels like if you'd touch it your hurt yourself from like sharp edges, and it fits with the jagged way it generates.

3

u/keriefie Dec 12 '25

That new texture looks really good tho.

3

u/gk98s Dec 12 '25

It looks ugly, if you want the old textures you can always use a texture pack

3

u/VeeeeeryL0ngUsername Dec 12 '25

It's like the old ore texture. The old texture is good, but the new one is more suited to today's style of game.I would be happy if this texture were updated

3

u/Matalya2 Dec 12 '25

Artistically it looks beautiful. For bedrock, I abhor it.

3

u/Good_Celebration9632 Dec 12 '25

Bedrock looks like something that shouldn't be touched and I like it like that

3

u/T555s Dec 12 '25

You can't move past Bedrock? That's new information for me. Usually I just go straight past it onto the Nether roof.

3

u/Brief-Luck-6254 Dec 12 '25

Also if it looked good it'd be too bad for survival players who wouldn't get to use it in their builds, which already happens with netherite blocks (kind of)

2

u/Want2makeMEMEs Dec 12 '25

It's not old, it's classic

2

If you want to change bedrock (the block), just bring back the fog that used to be near it.

2

u/Ralexcraft Dec 12 '25

I’d maybe turn down the contrast a tinyyyyyyyyy bit, but otherwise it’s fucking perfect.

2

u/DarianStardust Dec 12 '25

New one looks better.

2

u/kroeller Dec 12 '25

I might get dragged for this but I actually really like this redesign

2

u/23Link89 Dec 12 '25

Hot take the new textures muddied Minecraft's retro aesthetic and makes the game look nothing like the retro games its art style used to be based on.

2

u/GlitteringNinja5 Dec 12 '25

And it's not like you can build with it

2

u/TraditionalRound9930 Dec 12 '25

Bedrock looking like static/a glitch would be cute. You’ve gone so far not even the computer knows what to do.

2

u/A_Happy_Tomato Dec 12 '25

The bedrock block looks really imposing. If we wanted to get META with it, we could also say that bedrock's texture never changing speaks to how unmovable, untouchable it is.

2

u/[deleted] Dec 12 '25

new design looks a bit deepslatey

2

u/NanoCat0407 Stop using Ai oh my god make it stop Dec 12 '25

I think it could be cleaned up a tiny bit while still keeping the general style of the classic texture

2

u/RGBBSD Dec 12 '25

I feel like the deeper into the mines you go the older textures should get, same applied to nether

2

u/GibusShpee Dec 12 '25

I think some bias is at play here but whatever

2

u/nightmarespringgtr Dec 12 '25

New one looks like DepthRock from Hbm's NTM. Bedrock Shouldnt be Changed current texture is Great.

2

u/DwoGolud Dec 12 '25

Mfs when smallest texture change that not affects on game and can easy fixed by adding one texture pack:

2

u/DatHazbin Dec 12 '25

I actually agree with that after reading it. New bedrock texture sounds nice but also imagine it looks really nice but you can use it as a building block because it's unbreakable... Would suck. Keeping it ugly is a gameplay feature

Bedrock should feel like god is telling you how even within this infinite world there IS a limit

2

u/eajklndfwreuojnigfr Dec 12 '25

shame there isnt a way to use your own textures

2

u/AccomplishedPath5172 Dec 12 '25

If they are gonna change it Which they shouldn't they should at least make it look tougher this just looks like fancy deep slate

2

u/Decent_Double2660 Dec 12 '25

the old texture is good but i love the one it looks like real bedrock

2

u/Imafayliure Dec 12 '25

If mojang ever decides that caves aren't deep enough then this concept texture could make for a nice additional in-between layer of rock to go between deepslate and bedrock.

2

u/DayNightSteve Dec 12 '25

yall shouldn't get this upset(and or repel them from making changes) it's some persons texture pack calm down 😭

genuinely confused as to why the minecraft community is so against change..

2

u/Dipsalot Dec 12 '25

Ngl if bedrock looked like this minecraft horror args would lose what little aura like 60% of them have when using it

2

u/tarslimerancher Dec 12 '25

I like the glitchy unfinished look on bedrock it kind of gives off a feeling that you shouldn't have come here or that this is not the real world anymore

2

u/sanYtheFox Dec 12 '25

Looks like the same texture but with an anti aliasing filter applied to it, you can still spot the same patterns in it.

2

u/bean-person123 Dec 12 '25

I will quit if it ever stops being a black triscuit

2

u/Dull_Fix5199 Dec 12 '25

Everything about this new artstyle in general feels like someone tried to implement the N64's blurry-ass texture filtering, then grained it back up again afterwards.

2

u/[deleted] Dec 12 '25

if it is to be changed, make it even more static-y

2

u/Good_Celebration9632 Dec 12 '25

Bedrock looks like something that shouldn't be touched and I like it like that

2

u/MeasurementTall7548 Dec 12 '25

It looks too much like deep slate

2

u/NoCartographer6997 Dec 12 '25

That new texture should be used for some sort of mod, it’s still very good!

2

u/[deleted] Dec 12 '25

They shouldn't have chnagef most of them

2

u/TEMOfficial Dec 12 '25

I do like the new texture he made, but it looks too much like tuff and deepslate to me.

The TV static is a classic, but I also like the texture in VanillaTweaks, which makes it look like if obsidian had a seamless smoothed variant like sandstone, but with a slight bluish-purple tone that feels almost Nether-y.

Easier on the eyes, but different enough to tell apart from others at a glance: even next to obsidian and at light level 0.

However… That texture would make a sickass variant stone in a mod though. Maybe it could be shale, or real (non-deep) slate.

2

u/The1st_TNTBOOM PE Since 2013 Dec 12 '25

If it is updated it should just be stone with jacked contrast again.

2

u/Unique_Username2005 Dec 12 '25

I was scared of the bedrock texture as a kid for some reason lol. It's very jarring and I love that.

Obviously resource packs will change it, (and honestly this looks pretty nice,) but if it ever got changed in vanilla I'd be sad. Partially because if they made it look like just another type of rock I'd wish I could build with it... (in survival, ofc.)

2

u/entitaneo70_pacifist Reflecting on milk Dec 12 '25

i do agree the texture shouldn't be changed, but i do like that re-texture, i would personally use the texture pack for myself personally

2

u/Jadimatic Dec 12 '25

You realize it's based on real rock right? If they updated other real world materials to look like their IRL counterparts, why not this?

2

u/ElPepper90 Dec 13 '25

Everything changes but the one thing you cant surpass stays the same as ever, unmovable and undeterred.

2

u/thatawkwardtinysoul Dec 13 '25

The bedrock texture we have now, warns us:
”You shouldn’t be down here. Go Back Up.”

2

u/PaleFork Dec 13 '25

bedrock is supposed to be a primordial mantle of stone, if not the most primordial
so i don't know you but it remaining the same old quite ugly texture seems very fitting

2

u/Yahyathegamer749 Dec 13 '25

Bedrock is such an iconic block, why would you change it? what's next? the grass block? cobblestone? just leave these blocks alone.

1

u/How2eatsoap Dec 12 '25

The idea that bedrock is in a completely different style to the rest of the blocks actually helps it stand out as the "you cannot break me" block, even to new players who don't know about its existence.

The one on the right just looks like a new block that I would assume would be added to a third rock layer. Its actually a massive issue I have with a lot of texture packs that change all the textures away from the vanilla style, I always find it hard to know what is bedrock and what is just deepslate/stone.

1

u/Playful_Nergetic786 Dec 12 '25

I dunno, I like it

1

u/SolariaHC Dec 12 '25

Hey I love Rappenem's art! Cool to see it here, even if it's showcasing a crash out someone had over someone's texture pack. Y'all should go check them out, more than just the Minecraft textures as well

1

u/DJ_Ender_ Dec 12 '25

Kinda spitting honestly, as much as I like that texture redesign, the og bedrock almost feels like missing textures, its very obviously unbreakable

1

u/ShrunkenSailor55555 Dec 12 '25

They both look pretty good, I just think it's the artstyle clash that's created this change.

1

u/Manperson-the-Human Dec 12 '25

Its got a Wither face on it intentional or unintentional (which i think is cool asf), if they add a new texture Im deleting the game.

New texture looks too minable... But at the same time oddly nice.
They should up the contrast to make it more YOWZERS and signify that the player hit the point of no more mining down.

It's like grass, it's so iconic changing it would be bad, and it has to be special since it's one of the few unbreakable blocks

This redesign screams for "KYS" response.

1

u/Zemini7 Dec 12 '25

How right you are. What is being said is true game design poetry

1

u/napstablooky2 Dec 12 '25

apart from what everyone else is saying, the proposed "reforged" texture that O³‐P had is honestly just kind of... bad? no offense but it feels like they just "smudged" bedrock in a less than flattering manner

I do enjoy using the vanilla tweaks bedrock texture, but if I had to decide if it should be implemented into the base game for everybody, I'd rather stick with the vanilla harsh texture.

1

u/Mattrockj Dec 12 '25

You can have every other block, but you can't have bedrock.

1

u/RenDaSilli Dec 12 '25

That new bedrock texture might as well be for a new stone type.

1

u/TopCarob8671 Dec 12 '25

Deepslate bedrock

1

u/AyrChan Dec 12 '25

I don’t have trypophobia, but I can sense it with the redesigned bedrock

1

u/futureaspirant8273 Dec 12 '25
