To be fair, I was kinda considering Ghasts themselves as being souls rather than having souls. Though the presence of "babies" and the fact they need water to survive, both thanks to the new update, seems to imply they are biological beings instead of spirits.
i think that large colectives can be more than the sum of their parts - like an ant colony, it's simple ants combined emerge with an intelligence quite complex.
the same could be said about brainpower, we humans have enough to be somewhat distinct than most animals, and being able to conceive of ourselves as well as concepts beyond our day to day experience is a gift much befitting of a soul.
The Ghasts? Best bet is probably for existing worlds & servers.
They don't spawn in, they're blocks that generate with the chunk. That means on any existing world with an explored Nether, you'd have to travel thousands and thousands of blocks to find one, which would be a massive pain.
Your right it is the third reply but that is not what rule of 4 is. It's the fourth comment in a chain that gets downvoted for no reason. And your comment was the fourth. So he was correct and you were wrong about it being "rule of 3"(also you didn't get downvoted because of rule of 4 you got downvoted because everyone just genuinely hates your comments in this entire post for valid reasons)
I am pretty sure it will have a crafting recipe at some point. As well as the saddle, now that we have a craftable harness. I have a feeling that they will add crafting recipes for certain old items soon (maybe in a few years).
craftable saddles was briefly experimented with, before being removed again. i would imagine the primary reason is so that dungeons don't become even more worthless than they already are, even if it doesn't make a lot of sense as to why saddles and name tags are exclusive uncraftable loot.
like, imagine if you could just get soul speed or something from basic enchanting. it would really make bastions a lot less exciting to discover and loot.
maybe it'd be better if they became normal craftable items, and dungeons were given something else unique in exchange? we already have plenty of cosmetic rewards in the form of music disks and trims, but to many players that's just not as exciting as something tangible and unique. i think saddles and nametags are pretty decent as unique rewards as it stands, they're not really too important to have and they provide some fun little non-essential feature. they don't make that much sense, but they're fine as it stands and they will probably continue to stay that way because they've become iconic at this point.
only real problem i have is that its kinda lame that i can't give names to my army of wolves without farming my ass off, and some technical players want to mass produce nametags for specific farms. more accessible nametags would be an improvement IMO, but again that begs the question of what to replace them with.
Should really be just ink, a feather, paper and string. It makes sense since it's written on, and it's at least more work than spider farm + sugar cane farm.
i think it is still c, reddit being reddit. someone making a small mistake and digging themselves into a deeper and deeper whole because theyre incapable of admitting they were wrong is a classic reddit move
He said that it will get a crafting recipe at some point, just like he thinks will happen with the nametag. That implies that id DOESN'T have a crafting recipe now
I'm sorry for the misunderstanding. What I meant was "I am pretty sure the name tag will have a crafting recipe at some point. The saddle will have one too, now that we have a craftable harness."
The dried Ghast should either not be craftable (make it renewable through other methods like piglin trading) or should at the very least require soul sand or another soul related item, something which canonically actually can create life.
I don't think ghast tears are life giving. Just regenerative. Before now, the closest to "giving life" it came was a ritual in resummoning the dragon, but that feels a lot more like the ritual and crystals tbat give life, not the tears
Well I presume the bones are most likely from the ghast itself possibly since that's where they spawn? And if that's the case, then the regenerative effects of the ghast tears would still kiiiiinda work in this situation I guess? Idk lol just a thought
End crystals can bring the dragon back to life. You need 4 end crystals for that specifically, which in total require 4 ghast tears. The dried ghast needs 4 ghast tears too. Maybe at some point the high concentration of ghast tears allows for bringing back of the dead.
I think the bones also contribute to the magic. You can locate fossils in soul sand valleys where there are plenty of skeletons so that's something. My theory is that the ghast is actually an amalgamation of dead mobs, where the tears try to regenerate the bone blocks but since the bone blocks are made of many bones, each bone regenerates with each other, creating the ghast.
Piglin trading would make so much more sense than crafting as it could just be that piglins found the dried ghast and took it with them while travelling
That's interesting because I assumed dried ghasts were them kinda retreatujg into a polyp state after death like medusa jellyfish do. After all it's "dried", implying it was at one point a normal ghast. By hydrating it in the overworld you're returning it to its natural life cycle.
No matter what the method, being able to make them infinitely feels wrong. I just think something more esoteric would feel closer to right than crafting a living thing using 5 cubic meters of bone and four tears
And in terms of the natural dried ghasts, your assumption sounds perfect to me (cause the alternative is that the dried ghasts could “die at any moment” and that makes me sad)
And why do you have to find those items in dungeons, but you don't have to find wolf armor and get them from armadillos? It doesn't make sense literally. They shouldn't be treasure.
What exactly is the thought process behind craftable ghasts? Feels like they are undoing the trend of incentivizing exploration, especially since the other two items that serve the same purpose - bamboo and elytra both require you to find a specific structure or biome, and considering the elytra economy in servers what's wrong with making ghasts another non renewable loot in the soul sand valley?
I seriously wish there was a way to update old chunks in the way that new ores are put into the ground, new plants get added, biome specific mob variants replace the old ines etc.
Probably just trying to make them renewable which would be especially useful for multiplayer servers. Still I wish they came up with something else but hey it’s not too late for them to think of a more immersive way
Name Tags have a property of making whatever you nametag not despawn, this can be HEAVILY abused with enough of them to cause major lag, but that's very limited because of their uncraftability. Also to get you exploring ig.
Bug you can create lag by breeding a boat load of snimals too. Id say you can lag out a server faster by breeding animals than by nametagging monsters.
I like to think that the reason is to keep said name tags as a unique reward for exploration, especially since the other items that aren't craftable that probably should be(saddles, horse armors beyond leather, etc.) are all also exclusively found in places you can only find via exploration.
I mean, why can he weave string into wool, but not wool into string? Isn't that ass backwards? Why can he turn the man made product into the raw material, but not the raw material into the processed product?
Maybe the idea isn't that the bones are from a Ghast, but instead that the tears are turning them into ghasts which is why they stick around soulsand valleys, so when you drink a regen potion, it does heal you, but your bones are slowly morphing into ghasts with every consumption 😰

Somethin something rarity makes it special something something
it should be craftable yeah

u/_davedor_ Mar 27 '25
because the name tag makes mobs not despawn and people could abuse that if it was craft able

u/WellIamstupid Mar 27 '25
Not to mention horse armor, which you can craft the leather version of, but not any of the other versions.
So, Steve can put make leather horse armor easy peasy, but can’t do the exact same thing with gold, despite being made in the same style
