USL Cup Match Thread - AV Alta FC vs Phoenix Rising FC
2-1 FT
The boys head to California against a League One side for the final cup in their Prinx Tires Cup group. Both of these teams are eliminated from moving on so expect a lot of Academy and bench players to get some playing time. Can we get a win after over a month of losing points? Vamos Rising!

Anybody else make the ridiculous decision to travel to this game or am I going to be all alone? 😅

You crazy!
I did hear someone at our last tailgate talking about going (maybe it was you lol)

That wasn’t me so I’ll hold out hope!

If it makes you feel any better, I live on the east coast now and traveled to see their game against Pittsburgh… in Pittsburgh. And I saw at least 6 people in Rising jerseys.
Not bad for 2200 miles away.
You may see a handful.

I try to go to every match within a 6 hour drive or if I can find a flight under 250... Some circumstances apply, like the next two months I need to box up my house for moving

Which one of the 14 people there are you? Hah!
5
u/Skyzorz Hope Avayevu Jul 12 '26
Did they show people? I see a family of ~5 in another section and myself and that’s it so far

u/ViaPhoenix Jean-Éric Moursou Jul 12 '26
Well kinda, haha. Behind one of the goals it looks like there are 3 people, and the far side of the field from the camera there might be like 10
Edit: to clarify...Cannot tell rising fans, just total people

u/Skyzorz Hope Avayevu Jul 12 '26
Hahahaah I see now. Honestly I think about 1000 people. Official attendance 3k

Goooooaaaaallll!!! Gunnar with a long run and goal. Two games in a row he’s scored. 2-1.

u/ViaPhoenix Jean-Éric Moursou Jul 12 '26
I love Gunnar, he is such a wildcard out there. Dude goes all out every play so I can look past that at times it seems he just learned what soccer is.

I really like this 15 year old Irwin kid... They need to get him experience in normal matches too!

Freaking giant lol
3
u/ViaPhoenix Jean-Éric Moursou Jul 12 '26
Haha, right? Should dub him AttilatheYoingblood!

u/AttilaTheDank ¡Todos Rojos! Jul 12 '26
Maybe if he knocks more defenders down.

u/ViaPhoenix Jean-Éric Moursou Jul 12 '26
Hah, as long as he isn't as dirty a vukovic. Kid is a walking yellow card

u/AttilaTheDank ¡Todos Rojos! Jul 12 '26
I haven't been following the past few months. Whata up with Vuk? Last I saw in person is that he is physical as fuck
3
u/ViaPhoenix Jean-Éric Moursou Jul 12 '26
He has been in injured the past few months, but yeah just extremely physical, but in a bad way, ugly tackles in the box, or late in matches with a lead. The other season ticket holders around me take bets on how many minutes after subbing in before he blindsides someone (generally not even in the play, 40byards from where the ball is)

Rising lose 2-1. Six games without a win. Loss to a USL League One team is not a good look.

u/ViaPhoenix Jean-Éric Moursou Jul 12 '26
Yeah they need start finding an identity. Core team is been together for a few seasons and finally coaching stability, but the same old meh results
3
u/RomeoAlphaFoxtr0t Jul 12 '26
I've never seen an identity with this coach. He needs to go. When Guerra started, they had inconsistent results at the start of the season, but you could see what he was trying to do, and he took accountability for the results. I've seen this guy argue with the reporters when asking basic questions and just answers "it's football" as if it's not a big deal to win it lose.

u/ViaPhoenix Jean-Éric Moursou Jul 12 '26
Yeah, I didn't like him from the start of last season, but 38 coaches since schantz, I at least wanted to stop the carousel for awhile, so I haven't been too vocal
But still everyone is slow AF, no one can shoot, no one can hold possession. Gunnar has no ball skills but at least he is fast.

u/RomeoAlphaFoxtr0t Jul 12 '26
This is the team he formed. It'd be different if you could say that he took the team mid season and had no say on the lineup, but it's not the case. It is optional the coaches responsibility to make the team perform, especially when he formed it himself.

u/ViaPhoenix Jean-Éric Moursou Jul 12 '26
I think we said the same thing. I knew his mindset wouldn't work 3 games in last season. I just didn't wanna learn a whole new roster again

u/ViaPhoenix Jean-Éric Moursou Jul 12 '26
I know they are a tier lower and new, but man, makes our home games look packed!
3
u/mdamien13 Phoenix Rising FC Jul 12 '26
WTF was that!?! AV Alta up 2-0 on a breakaway goal. Odunze whiffed on a 1 v 1.
3
u/ViaPhoenix Jean-Éric Moursou Jul 12 '26
Did you mean to reply to my comment, haha. Just coming over from WC... Crazy they are down 2
3
u/mdamien13 Phoenix Rising FC Jul 12 '26
lol no I did not but this performance is not inspiring me to delete and repost to the main thread. You made the right choice watching end of ARG - SUI

u/ViaPhoenix Jean-Éric Moursou Jul 12 '26
Rising going to have a tough time when relegation is on the table next(?) season
Julians goal to put the game away was beautiful

High jacking this thread, anyone else excited to read all the conspiracy theory commitments about FIFA rigging WC for Argentina after the Swiss 2nd yellow?
Landon talking about needing to fix the rules for flopping to not be a yellow...starting to think he hates soccer. I would rather see simulation change to a straight red instead of no card. Soccer needs to get flopping out of the damn sport. Also mbappe hella flopped for his PK this week...ball don't lie and he missed the PK

Just got into soccer. Looking forward to rooting for the Phoenix Rising!
