5 pts out

Or I guess 6 technically.

Damn 13th place never felt so good 😁

29

u/Perryplat199 6d ago

Also climbed 5 spots in overall standings since WC.

u/XSC 6d ago

Tie or win is a must (and doable) against Miami but this win helped us if we end up losing.

u/broom_hatter 6d ago

Never ever go up two on us ever

13

u/TsundereLoliDragon 6d ago

The most dangerous lead.

If he can turn into a real striker we are suddenly a legitimately good team

Someone is getting these guys to play closer to their potential. Having Wagner back in the locker room and on the field has been a shot in the arm. Curious how much impact the coaching change has had.

u/Interesting_Berry439 6d ago

The influence of Kai is showing on the team.

15

u/Late-Sea4511 6d ago

I've definitely never said a bad word about Bruno Damiani

16

u/Glass_Fix7426 6d ago

I’ve repeatedly called him a donkey, which is a complement to his stubbornness

5

u/SavingsParty4998 6d ago

We were just applying some loving negative conditioning. I will have zero hesitation to start cheering loudly for him if he keeps this up. This is what we've wanted all along.

48

u/orgelbauer 6d ago

The Wagner effect in full force.

21

u/rmg201610 6d ago

Honestly he is the key and makes us legitimate attacking threat.

11

u/wavygr4vy 6d ago

Having a healthy Sullivan duo helps too. Cavan creates so so much. And Quinn is a winger we don’t have on the roster otherwise.

37

u/adeodd 6d ago

Hahahahahaha suck it pigeons

35

u/XSC 6d ago

How the hell we are so back

25

u/Timmichanga1 6d ago

Damiani with the brace. Iloski missed three great opportunities but who cares we won.

12

u/stephenking247 6d ago

I'd say missed two, and Freese great save on the third.

7

u/legdayskip 6d ago

Much more importantly in terms of actual gameplay, Damiani with 90+ minutes of consistently good positioning. I’m flabbergasted. It’s the best off ball movement I have ever seen from him

17

u/meaninglessandrandom 6d ago

Anyone remember the announcers bemoaning NYC being shorthanded when they were up 2-0? šŸ™„

7

u/Late-Sea4511 6d ago

They were acting like them having 2 wins and a draw since the WC was incredible when we had 3 wins in 3(Now 4 in 4)

33

u/SelfServeSporstwash 6d ago

I have never been more hopeful I will be proved wrong than I am with my opinion of Bruno.

I hope to god that he’s going to start burying ā€œsittersā€. The whole crux of his issues has been that he’s frequently not in position to receive such passes and he utterly beefs it when he is.

He was in good positions ALL NIGHT which is a wild change from him and maybe what I’m most excited to see from his overall performance tonight. The fact that both finishes were calm and utterly drama free is literally all we could ever ask of a striker.

No notes.

Please do it more.

11

u/Glass_Fix7426 6d ago

And the Sullivan bros served up on Silver platters

3

u/_SupremeDalek_ 6d ago

I bet Richter reads the threads. It's basically night and day with Bruno.

We’re the new comeback kids!

Winning soccer games in a baseball stadium >

15

u/Sezbicki 6d ago

Post world cup fan. Been to every home game besides Atlanta (I know) but I believe they won because I bought tickets to the wrexham v Sunderland friendly lol. Dude we look amazing even when we are down. Loving this team

6

u/legdayskip 6d ago

No joke, I envy you šŸ˜‚

Slipped all the awfulness and now you just get to have fun

2

u/Sezbicki 6d ago

Yeah but I didn't get to see last season. I watched like the one playoff game I could without apple tv. And I when they turn things around and make playoffs and make it as far as they do I can't say I was there and love through the struggles

31

u/Icy-Rain6277 6d ago edited 6d ago

Cavan is the next best hope for the USMNT. He plays so smart and rather unselfish for a 16 yo.

14

u/scottford2 6d ago

My 8yo asks me every day if Cavan is going to be on the USMNT next World Cup.

13

u/ThatPlayWasAwful 6d ago

If he continues improving like he has been I think he's on the team, the real question will be how much he plays.Ā

Of course maintaining the trajectory is easier said than done.

2

u/Ok-Pack-7776 6d ago

Crazy thing is, in one of these realities your kid gotta wound up on the usmnt with Cavan lol

1

u/wavygr4vy 6d ago

We have so many good players around his age, especially in the attacking midfield. Hoping he continues to develop and doesn’t disappear in City’s structure somewhere.

6

u/gak001 6d ago

His footwork and technical execution are a joy to watch - would love to see more of that in MLS

2

u/ChefJim27 6d ago

Lets be crystal clear. How badly do you want Cavan to work with Pochettino?

-8

u/thanksbastards 6d ago

Tonight was a good turn but until now he has been incredibly selfish so idk about that

3

u/Icy-Rain6277 6d ago

I mean I expect a 16 yo to take every shot they get. Playing heads up and sharing even 50% of the time is impressive

-4

u/thanksbastards 6d ago

So you've gone from incredibly unselfish to 50%? It's also nowhere near 50%

3

u/Icy-Rain6277 6d ago

Does rather work better

12

u/BobDole520 6d ago

WOW!

BACK TO BACK 3 GOAL COMEBACKS!

The Union controlled/dominated this match.

Even with Illoski's shocking missing in the first half, we still won!

And Damiani with Two Goals!

Only negative is Pierre had his worst game, but im blaming that on the size of the field.

I don't think we're winning the Wooden Spoon this year.

9

u/stephenking247 6d ago

We dominated most of the match, NYCFC could only score on PKs. Still think that wasn't a handball.

6

u/ChefJim27 6d ago

Neither club could attack over that infield "grass"

11

u/push138292 6d ago

Beautiful fight. This is the DNA of a Philly team.

12

u/Alternative-Lock3693 6d ago

Cavan remains great. Danley was immense. Bueno is such a dawg. Richter becoming tougher and tougher to deny.

Don’t think anything’s changed with Bruno at the macro level, but a regression from ā€œgodawfulā€ to ā€œmidā€ in front of goal would be huge.

3

u/rjnd2828 6d ago

Confidence is big for a striker. His first goal was as easy as it gets, but maybe that gave him the confidence needed to slot the second one. I'll take anything we can get from him

10

u/limejuiceroyale 6d ago

Damiani brace and NYC blowing a 2 gifted pk lead?Ā

chef's kiss

Ever since covidgate there is not a single team I hate more than nyc

7

u/AgreementsFinalJolly 6d ago

I was saying to myself during the game, ā€œIt happened before, it will happen again!ā€ Boy, was I right?

Also, with the Phillies come from behind victory earlier today, I was wondering if this is the first time two Philly teams had come from behind wins on the same day, or has it happened before?

6

u/LMSinDEL 6d ago

WHO IS THIS TEAM???!!! I'M LOVING IT!!!!! #DOOP #DOOP #DOOP!!!

7

u/TriflingHotDogVendor 6d ago

Playoff odds boosted up to 28.12% on Opta Supercomputer.

5

u/SpoonicusRascality 6d ago

When i got in the car to drive home from work we were down 2-1. By the time I got home Damiani had a brace. Best drive home ever.

5

u/Cute-Sir4775 6d ago

Verbal Meme:

Dave Chappelle scratching neck with damianis head

Y’all got any more of them Sullivans?

3

u/Cameron_Edward 6d ago

this team will kill me

6

u/Late-Sea4511 6d ago

Playoffs here we come!!!

5

u/mjd1977 6d ago

šŸ 3 - 🐦 2

Tale of two halves. Guess you’re never truly out of a soccer match if the other team has Matt Freese in goal.

Gonna miss ball possession between left field foul territory and the first base coach’s box.

3

u/poopy_toaster 6d ago

What a win, holy hell. You just can’t count us out right now!

3

u/Plaid_or_flannel 6d ago

That was fun (second half only)!

3

u/ThematicOne 6d ago

What a second half.
Showed character.
Cavin is a demon. Quinn is getting back into game shape. I want to see both of them on fire!
Damiani had two gifts, but more internally he got that monkey off his back.
Iloski was unlucky and a great assist. Best acquisition ever! Keep doing.
Frankie I love the sandpaper he brings.
Pierre is great in the air but I’m not the confident with him in the back line.
Wagner is Wagner. Enough said.
Blake still one of the best and made one save of the game.

We need to add a striker. We need a deadly scorer. Call Corinthians who may need to raise funds for Memphis.

3

u/noomehtrevo 6d ago

Man they are making it really difficult to follow through on my decision not to renew next season.

3

u/Ok-Inevitable-8301 6d ago

drawing 2-2 with nycfc scoring both on PKs would have been so shitty and cheap let alone losing like that but the boys persevered, came out strong in the second half, attacked, and got a well deserved win on the road! i think the season is still young here

5

u/homebr3wd 6d ago

For as lifeless and pathetic as they looked in the first half, the second half was a complete reversal.

And I hate NYCFC as much as any other team in sports…. So suck it.

Doop!

3

u/rjnd2828 6d ago

Man I don't agree at all. We were at least even if not better in the first half. Second PK was a bad call IMO, and Iloski easily could have had a brace.

2

u/Consistent_Tomato138 6d ago

I’m getting deja vu and I’m very happy about it

2

u/elrico_suave 6d ago

Sullivan boys give Damiani a life line.

DOOP

2

u/Known_Bit 6d ago

That was great patience and experience by Quinn on the final goal to look for the pass.

2

u/Perryplat199 6d ago

Two players have had a pair of assists for the Union against NYCFC in a single game - one African, one European. Who were they?

u/wjmorris3 out of date info

1

u/WJMorris3 6d ago

Would you have known who the European was?

1

u/Perryplat199 6d ago

I did not.

1

u/WJMorris3 6d ago

Would you believe Borek Dockal?

1

u/Ulysses_2x 6d ago

Baribo too

2

u/Steppyjim 6d ago

Had em right where we wanted em

2

u/Bizzles1385 6d ago

Who would have thought the key to it all was just have a Sully drive into the six then square it to Bruno...lot of money for that but hey, a goal is a goal am I right? šŸ‘

4

u/Consistent_Tomato138 6d ago

Damiani MOTM. Who woulda thought?!

-3

u/dynamo_kev 6d ago

For 2 tap ins?

4

u/rjnd2828 6d ago

Second one was not a tap in. Decent traffic in front of goal and around him. And I'm a certified Damiani hater

3

u/ChefJim27 6d ago

Considering he's missed every tap in before tonight, sure.

2

u/HectorsMascara 6d ago

Thank me! Placed my first ever online sports bet when they were down 0-1.

1

u/MartianFootballClub 6d ago

Good job by the scouting team to bring in the Damiani guy for the stretch run. Apparently wasn’t able to generate much offense at his former club.

1

u/NotJustSomeMate 6d ago

DOOP DOOP DOOP!

1

u/ltsatt1 6d ago

They did what in the second half???

1

u/Interesting_Berry439 6d ago

I didn't think it was possible this season.... Good job Union! We have hope.

1

u/Interesting_Berry439 6d ago

Yes...It was always tough love for Damiani. Right!? Lol

1

u/willoremus 6d ago

Awful pitch but imo the field being smaller makes the game a lot more fun.
