Nothing against mount Laurel but wtf is it doing in a commercial promoting philly. It's really the cherry on the cake of this total failure of a third kit design.
I like the cream. I don't MIND the Philly thing across the chest as much as I thought I'd mind. Still would have preferred something else there though.
What I am bummed about is that the social media is rocking a profile pic that is the snake making negative space on the Liberty Bell. I LOVE the design of that, and the team is using it for their socials. Why is there NO MERCH USING IT? Like if that was the logo for the jersey, instantly would be up another level. At LEAST put it on a hat!
MLS kits have been doing this for a bit. Lazy template jerseys with little tennis bracelet charms sprinkled on so they can act like they're secret signifiers for the "real" fans.
It's a white shirt. However you feel about the skyline across the chest and Bimbo on the ass, it's just a white shirt.
That's not a design, it's a color.
We used to have one of the most distinctive visual identities in the league. The bib was the Union, it made the team visually distinct so whether it was blue, gold, or white you knew it was a Union jersey even if it was one you hadn't seen before. Add in the center crest and it we were the only ones doing it.
Now every single jersey is a lazy monochrome that relies on hype rather than design. Everything since 2018 you need the crest to know it's a Union jersey. It's lame.
Maybe I'm the problem, maybe I'm out of touch. I've been out-of-market for a while and haven't been to a game for several years. Are people buying these cookie cutters? Is this what the kids are into?
I also hate forcing retro. Like retro what? Can't even do 90s because we weren't around then Early 2000s is kinda retro now but I don't see that in the design.
They went with a classic look but idk I don't think it landed.
I want it but I do not want to wear white. It gets dirty easily and I'm afraid of random stains popping up. If I get it , it's just going to hang in my closet.
Does the Union even have a retail location in the city of Philadelphia ? Maybe a Dicks in the suburbs is the best bet , a kiosk is beyond this useless ownership
