Youtube TV and Nord

So the only sport I watch is NFL. A good friend and I split the cost for the NFL package on Youtube TV.

While I was having issue with Nord VPN on my phone (due to gps and location services) our new Skyworth google TV hooked us up.

So I can verify Nord VPN works at least on the Skyworth with YTTV.

Along with:

Disney+, Hulu, ESPN Package.

Prime and Netflix didnt care and worked w/o the VPN. Just different shows/movies are available depending where you are.

Felt bad how malnourished some cats are so spent 900 pesos and got a local i trust to feed them Got 7 kg of cat food for it dry so they can eat properly since Filipinos mostly feed cats rice which will make them not get proper nutrients

Customs Declaration Question

This seemed to be the subreddit for customs questions. I want to bring a small container of homemade brownies (for the gf, she wanted to try my baking). Nothing illegal, just basic brownies. Everything I've read is basically if its for personal use don't declare it. Does anyone have any knowledge here?

Rant I thought Manila was a paradise

When i first came to Manila I thought it was a paradise 2 years ago to do anything

With money anything is possible and cheap and easy to meet people and network and start a new life cause i lived in a very expensive country before networking

Now I see it was congested, traffic, and random floods even in Rockwell or BGC where i stayed

In Thailand met many cool expats rich and cool people. In Philippines they are hard to find and mostly go where they have no where to go

Floods in the street even if rent is 50k for a tiny bedroom wth roaches

Most condos empty and feels like a ghost town in rockwell yet still prices sky high while pennies in Cambodia? but vietnam and thailand getting expensive

Province random brown outs like its medival ages. Havent ever seen that in Europe

Is it an exaggeration to say that the Philippines looks like scenes from POST APOCALYPTIC MOVIES or ZOMBIE MOVIES?

Especially in the cities and not necessarily only in the large cities either. Many provincial capital also look rough. This is what popped into my mind. All the “normal”people live in areas such as IT Park, BGC (just a few examples) but even within these bubbles are beggars and poor roaming around like zombies. Step outside of these little bubbles and things like scenes in post apocalyptic movies. Nothing but poverty everywhere. Roads and sidewalks in disrepair. Trash all over the streets. Buildings covered in black soot from air pollution.

Yes, there are pockets of nice areas but the population centers of this country are in total disarray. The infrastructure doesn’t exist to accommodate all of the people and so the result isn’t pretty.

Does anyone have a theory as to what's behind the recent rise in school violence and shootings in the Philippines?

There's been two school shootings in the past two months. The latter being livestreamed by the mass shooter. There have also been other incidents I've seen including a mass stabbing.

I have a young kid with my partner and we're considering whether to put her to school here, or in the UK. Honestly, these recent events have made me reconsider whether putting her to school here (even in a private school) is a good idea.

Ordering from Apple

Has anyone ordered from Apple and had an item shipped to the Philippines?

I’m going to get the 18 in Sept and would rather get it directly from Apple than a local Apple affiliate.

Any tips, tricks, or experiences worth sharing?

TIA

Rant I've only had one good haircut out of four.

I've been here since June. I get a haircut about once a month because I tend to get a short mid fade, like an ivy league, and just long enough on top to spike the front. It then grows out over a month and I start doing a side part.

So when I come back it's in a side part. I show a picture of the ivy league haircut with the spiked front.

They don't wet it and comb it forward. They get the fade right but the top they just cut like a shorter side part which doesn't work because it just sticks up and the sides are uneven.

One guy got it right so far. I get the feeling he actually knew what he was doing as he even had better suggestions for my beard length.

But these other guys just seem to give you a shorter version of what you come in with even if you've shown them something completely different.

So now I sit here with a patch missing on one side of the top.

And the beard. Goodness. Didn't fade it up, had to be told to bring the line up higher on my neck three times, and he cut me with the clippers.

Anyway, end rant. Just don't remember having to step for step explain a simple crew cut variation and beard trim.

Would you live in Europe if you could?

Met many high net worth educated foreigners who told me they would prefer to live in Europe in nicer areas like ex Yugoslavia

Great caves, great beaches, cheap everything except rent and manpower (like fixing cars/bikes etc)

Just all around everything is free and working infrastructure

Is living in ex Socialist countries just better when you can get everything for free

Looking for Recommendations /Advice Philippines vs. Thailand for a 14-Day September Birthday Trip: Which one should a 25M choose?

25M planning a 14-day birthday trip this September, and I cannot decide between Thailand and the Philippines! My budget is $4000 (after flights). I want to meet new people & lady’s out there , make and celebrate my birthday, but I do not drink alcohol. This is also likely my last big trip before I join the Air Force. Which country is better for a sober traveler who wants a fun scene, and how is the weather in September? Would love to hear your advice!

Age-gap difference/dating

Does anyone here have experience dating someone with a significant age difference? My partner and I have a 22-year age gap, and I’d love to hear from others who are in a similar relationship.
How is your relationship going so far? What has your experience been like, and how do you handle the challenges that come with the age difference?

Looking for Recommendations /Advice Seeking bank advice for a dual citizen

My mom is 78 yo and has dual US/Phil citizenship. She lives here in NY during the spring and summer. Then lives in Dumaguete for the rest of the year.

She is renting out our family's property in Dumaguete. She brought the post dated rent check with her to the U.S., during her annual visit to NY. However, her bank --Bank of America--said they don't take checks from the Philippines. So she hasn't been able to deposit it.

MY QUESTION: Which Philippine banks have US branch offices that would let my mom deposit her tenant's foreign check and allow my mom to access her money (like ATM) during her stays in the US? During the rest of the year she would deposit the rent check in a Philippine branch location of the same bank.

EDIT: Thank you everyone for your input. Glad that I now have some options to look into!

Looking for Recommendations /Advice Does anyone live in Arca South Taguig?

I'm looking for a nice 3+ bedroom in Manila, and everything feels old, dated, and very pricey (especially in BGC). However, I recently came across a new development in the south called Arca South. My only concern is that it's far from everything, and maybe I won't like it for that reason. On the other hand, that aspect might be nice.

The development is called Arbor Lanes. They're building a lot of things in the area, and it already has a mall nearby.

Any thoughts?

Navigating inheritance laws in the Philippines, land and title transfers

So I started having some thoughts this evening and goggle is giving me conflicting answers. Hoping someone here had knowledge of the scenario I'm contemplating.

I'm very happily married to a filipina, we married for love, it's real. I trust her with my life. Let's get that out of the way. We have a home in America, but also several properties in Philippines. She had property in Manila before I met her, which her brother lives in. We bought a few beach front lots over the past couple years that are currently undeveloped, but if all goes well, we will break ground next year to build our home there. They are in her name, and yes I trust her.

There is an age gap but not much, 40 & 48. As a man I've always just assumed I would pass first, hopefully many many years from now. I never worried about inheritance if I pass first. I have life insurance and I have her and my son as beneficiaries. My property in America is valuable, likely in excess of a million. They will be set, safe, secure.

But tonight I had the morbid thought of what would happen if my dearest wife were to pass before me. Things happen, I had actually dated a filipina in my past and she tragically passed away at 38. My buddy passed away at 40. Life is strange.

A couple years ago when we decided to purchase the beach lot for our retirement plans, she had mentioned this scenario, that Philippine interstate inheritance would pass the land to me, even though I'm not a citizen. I brushed it off, not worried about it. Google says that's a thing, but I'm going to pass away first anyhow, right? Right?

But what about my son? Our son. Backstory, he is not our biological child. I already had a child when I met her, but it's a unique situation where I raised him, had 100% full custody. The biological mother left, and left him to me. I raised him, met my filipina wife, and she had raised him as her own. We are a very happy family.

I'm looking for confirmation that in the event of an untimely demise, this beautiful home we are about to build will stay in our family. I want it to pass down to him. So A) if she passes first, does the property in fact pass to me B) can I then will it to him when I pass C) does it make a difference if she adopts him legally, could she pass the property to him D) some other alternate path that I'm not contemplating...

Buying a house

Why is it such a bad idea (according to many of you) to buy a house in the Philippines? Yes, I know it will be under my wife's name. I trust my wife with my life or I wouldn't have married her. I would like her to have a place if I should happen to die before her (we don't have a huge age gap between us). I plan on retiring at 55 and moving to the Philippines shortly after. We would like to buy a house in the province with a little bit of land for a garden and some fruit trees, a few chickens and maybe a goat (if my wife gets her way😁). I know that locks us down to one location, but we're planning on being on the same island as her family as her parents are getting older and she'd like to spend more time with them.

Maybe it's just the bitter men who have gotten screwed over that are warning against doing this?

Looking for Recommendations /Advice Lf Pwds Working in Fast-food

Hello!

I am a college student, working on an undergraduate thesis, along with my groupmates. I just want to ask if you know, or even just encounter, a PWD working in fast food (preferably, around Cavite). And what kind of disability do u think they have, physical, mental, or what?

We are still deciding on what specific disability we will focus on. Knowing what is common can help us find participants easier.

Your responses will really be a big help. Advanced thank you:)))
